mmm I have been practice some classic chords..

but i have some questions..

the numbers means the fingers.?.. o what do the numbers mean?

and what about the letters on the side..?

Intro

e|---0----0----0----0-----0----------|

B|---1----1----1----1-----1----------|

G|---0----0----0----0-----0----------|

D|---2----0h2--2----0h2---2--------|

A|---3----3----3----3-----3----------|

E|---3----3----3----3-----3----------|

Sorry to bother you but I'm new in this :\

The numbers represent the frets on the guitar. In your example, you use your index finger on fret 1 on the 2nd string (B-string), middle finger on fret 2 on the 4th string (D), ring finger on fret 3 on the 5th string (A) and pinky finger on fret 3 of the 6th string (E). Since you are new to guitar playing, you can leave out the pinky on the E-string, since this might be hard for newcomers.

The letters on the side is the tuning. EADGBe is the standard tuning. Colplay uses this tuning alot, aswell as some more "exotic" tunings for songs like Til Kingdom Come, See You Soon, Spies and so on. But don't worry about this in the beginning, focus on songs with standard tuning. Check this site:

http://www.chordbook.com/guitartuner.php

Here you can tune your guitar in EADGBe, or choose one of the other tunings in the drop down menu.

Good luck, and come with new questions if you have some.

i've promised myself that "A message" is going to be the first song that I'll learn on my own! :)

D|---2----0h2--2----0h2---2--------|

what does "0h2" means?

D|---2----0h2--2----0h2---2--------|

what does "0h2" means?

That's a "hammer-on." What you do is play the note and then tap your finger onto the note after the "h." Example:

E |------0--0---------|

B |------1--1---------|

G |------0h2---------|

D |------3-3----------|

A |------3-3----------|

E |------1-1----------|

The above shows that you would play that chord, but "hammer-on" the open G string and hit the 2nd fret on the guitar. Coldplay does hammer-ons and other chord embellishments on A LOT of their tunes :) This particular example is what they do on "Don't Panic."

THANK YOU :)

Someone asked about "a message"? Well (shing)... http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/c/coldplay/a_message_ver3_tab.htm

is the best tab I've seen online. I know there are a ton of wrong tabs out there...but I've been using this one because it just about matches (shing)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy3ijEzYNAs

...Chris's part in this coldplay acoustic session.

haha ... (shing)

what do you mean with hammer-on?

Hmm, I think hobbestheprince gave a good description of a hammer-on.

But I found a video showing a hammer-on and a pull-off:

In the beginning the sound might fade quickly when doing it, but with some practice your fingers will become stronger and faster, and things will be better.

Which song(s) are you playing now, by the way?
