I'm sure they'll have good riffs / hooks, in fact thats possibly the one thing im certain about concerning the new album. I wouldn't worry about that too much :)

 

thats true. because if they get rid of atmosphericness (atmosphere?) AND riffs/hooks, i think they might be straying dangerously close to being un-coldplay. and i dont think any of us want that.

 

i forgot to mention "trouble" in that list. and "in my place." and a whole host of others, but really you canNOT go without mentioning those two. its like sacreligious.

Well, I think the new direction they're taking will lead them to make of this album the best. I know it's almost imposible to make a better album that Parachutes or AROBTTH but come on! They're Coldplay! It seems that they're more relaxed and working in a better way. I seriously can't wait for this record. I think is gonna be the album for what Coldplay would be remembered, I know I have big expectactions but they worth it. :D

I think it's hard to make a album that is better than AROBTTH or Parachutes, but it has to be better than X&Y.

But I think the 4th album will be great:cool:

Yep, definately will be ambitious, which is exactly what I want, just as long as they don't go too experimental, or even worse, make X&Y 2.0.

I don't really think their sound has evolved that much over the last 7 years.

 

OK, so each album had a central instrument:

• Parachutes - Acoustic guitar
  
• Rush Of Blood - Piano
  
• X&Y - Electric guitar

but there hasn't really been that much progression to be quite honest.

 

Plus Chris really needs to work on his lyrics. Swallowed In The Sea and The Hardest Part were fucking cringeworthy.

 

Coldplay aren't really doing it as much for me anymore, maybe because my horizons have seriously been broadened since X&Y.

 

For our sake and theirs, LP4 has to be a success (both musically and commercially, although I know the latter is assured), or I fear the backlash among their fanbase will be even worse than X&Y.

 

However, I respect them as musicians and will gladly buy the new album whenever it is released. Furthermore, I do not expect them to go away and dream it all up again (as Bono said at the start of 1990), but I think they know that the time has come to adjust their sound.

You'll get no backlash from me. I agree with virtually everything you just said. That's why I'm looking forward to this album so much; because I want it to be a progression so badly.

I dont think I ll like it more than Parachutes, they'd have to do something really really wicked and unexpected for that.

I do dearly hope that it will be better than X&Y though.

I think this will be their best album, they are doing something really good and unexpected. Something new, yet old :)

Personally, I think AROBTTH will be pretty damn hard to beat, I think it is the pinacle of their carrer so far (in terms of both music and lyrics).

But I also think there's a chance that LP4 will top it, why - dont know, just a gut feeling, haha.

Used correctly, hand claps are awesome. I listen to a lot of Spoon, and that's a band that uses hand claps excellently. The handclapping breaks in "The Underdog" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LenPKPqvdJA) pretty much make the song.
