Chances that LP4 will be their best album?

Featured Replies

Do you think their 4th album will / won't be their best album?

Why?

Discuss.

Personally, I think AROBTTH will be pretty damn hard to beat, I think it is the pinacle of their carrer so far (in terms of both music and lyrics).

But I also think there's a chance that LP4 will top it, why - dont know, just a gut feeling, haha.

Highly unlikely. Parachutes will always rule. As much as I love Coldplay's music, I seriously doubt that they will top Parachues, especially after their horrendous showing with X&Y (at least when compared to A Rush Of Blood and Parachutes...)

I think it will be better than X&Y...if it isn't I'll be real upset (:bigcry:)...

But I love them all the same!

I think it would be better than X&Y, but i never like it more than all albums. :guitarist::singer::drummer::guitarist:

I don't think I can love any album more than Parachutes...

But I discovered Coldplay through 'Square One' so I can't love any opening song more than that....

Well so far (for me) Coldplay albums have just gotten better and better with every release. But they may've reached a peak with X&Y, I was pretty damn impressed with that. Who knows?

Parachutes and AROBTTH have always been close for me, in fact Trouble and Spies are two of my favourite Coldplay songs ever, but the fact that nearly every single song on AROBTTH is great and fits as an album as a whole, as well as being the first CP album i ever listened to, its too difficult to ignore.

Same here. I couldn't choose between those 2. I don't think it will be 'better', although that's how I voted. All their albums sound so different that it's hard to cmpare them. But it will certainly be their most ambitious to date. WIth Chris trying to expand his lyrical horizons, and Eno at the controls, it cn't help be ambitious. If they evolve their sound they way I think they will, it could be their best...hard to say.

Yep, definately will be ambitious, which is exactly what I want, just as long as they don't go too experimental, or even worse, make X&Y 2.0.

It's just hard for me to imagine an album better than A rush of blood to the head. As much as i hope its better, i just don't htink its gunna happen

What was the Beatles fourth album like? Well, for me, I think most of their songs are great - depending on the mood I'm in.. Since we're living life inside a bubble, can anyone fly this thing better than Coldplay? Eno will certainly offer new directions, but they've already got a pretty good formula. Anyhow, maybe they need more of a Canadian influence??:laugh3: (One nation, under the polar ice cap, indescribable, with labatts and maple syrup for all..!)

I liked X&Y. But I hope they don't do it again. It was not their best work, much as I love it. I'd like to see them go a bit 'too far' with the experimentalism, just to find out how far they can push themselves. (I'm not suggesting they turn into The Porcupine Tree, lol. That would not fit them at all.)

Exactly what I think.

It would certainly be interesting, but since they've said its going to be relatively short, I doubt we're gonna get 17 minute long epics ala Porcupine Tree

Of course there are many directions they could have taken, personally I would have liked them to go a slightly more atmospheric route (Will Champion said its the least atmospheric album they've made, if I recall, so I guess thats out of the question), but I can't wait to see what they've come up with Eno at the wheel.

The closest they'll get to 17 minute epics is the fact that Robert Fripp worked on Anesthetise, and he's also worked with Eno,lol. I love their atmospheric stuff the best too. But because they're known for it, I suspect Eno will steer them in the direction of a starker sound.

Much as I love and respect Brian Eno, he's been a bit of a curse to bands in that he sometimes moves them too far from what their fanbase is used to. (look at the backlash from U2 fans in the 90s) As a producer, I'm going to enjoy analyzing it. As a fan, I hope I can still get into it.

I dont know i have a feeling that this album will be their best!!I think they have progressed every album. And it is going to be interesting to see what direction they go in this time. There was so much pressure to make X&Y and i think to a certain extent there isnt as much pressure as there was before in making this album.Seems like they are having a lot more fun this time around ann relaxed a lot more making this album!Cant wai!!

That's a good point. They have their own studio, and they're keeping the record company suits OUT so that they can just be 4 guys doing it their way. THey're not going to release anything they're not 100% happy with, and in my experience, when a band is totally happy with their work, the fans can't help pick up on that and love it too.:)

I personally think this 4th album will blow everyone away. I think they have kept it under wraps so long no one can predict what is going to happen. Everyone going to be like `What a great song, wait a second thats Coldplay` and i think this will be one of the greatest mabye even 'THE' albums of all time. The direction they are going is something everyone wants, with Johnny having a great time with those guiatars(I seriously cant wait much longer)Chris lyrics going on another level, i mean he wrote 5 songs in 2 days, man is he working hard, And Will making the beats rather than following it,which was kinda my favourite because he is so good but nobody has seen the potential he can go to. And Guy pushing everyone in the experimental direction. All these things will please everyone, im sure. I think xy wasnt as good as its predessecors because even though they took 3 years, most of it was scrapped and in order not to upset their fans they quickly hurried everything in 3 months. Thats why people slate the lyrics and what else. But it looks like they have taken their time with this and im sure their wil be no slip ups.:)

UNLIKELY: Parachutes has and always will rule.

The only way that Parachutes will be overhauled is if they start writing songs similar to their early stuff. Unlikely to happen. Then again, shouldn't we all move on and remember Parachutes as Late-90's Coldplay?

yeahh..

I don't think they'll release better stuff than parachutes.. but who knows?

when did will say that this was the least atmospheric album?? this makes me a bit sad because their atmospheric-ness is what got me into them in the first place, and almost all of the bands and songs i love are at the very least a little atmospheric. that said, i'm pretty much up for anything as long as they stay true to who they are and dont stray too far from their core genre of "very hard soft rock" (or whatever chris calls it on the myspace; myspace makes my IE crash so i cant check). i dont want an X&Y 2.0 either, even though its a pretty great album. it's just not great for coldplay.

i said "AROBTTH will still rock" because i dont think anything can ever really top that for me. i hope to be pleasantly surprised, but still. i dont really ever expect that to be bumped from my #1 album of all time (though parachutes is very very close).

i cant wait to see what they come up with, either, from a curiosity point of view, but i'm just worried i'm not personally going to love the direction they're headed in and that my love for them will wane.

Well this is what he said:

How has Brian Eno influenced the Coldplay sound?

Brian's work has always been an influence on us. From the things he's done with Bowie and Talking Heads to his own solo records, his use of atmospheric sound and electronic treatment of traditional instruments is something that we've used heavily in the past. Funnily enough, this record sounds less Eno-like than the last couple even though it is the only one he has worked on officially!

The phrases Ive highlighted are what leads me to think that they wont be going atmospheric, ofcourse he doesn't say that outright, but thats my interpretation. I liked their atmospheric stuff aswell, it is a bit sad but I'm hoping that they wont completely abandon that style (seeing as the interview took place a few months before mixing began).

^good to know, thanks! i get the same impression. well, i trust them. but atmospheric is kind of my thing...

i also like really good riffs, like the ones in "clocks," "speed of sound," "GPASUYF" etc. i hope theyve got at least ONE song with a good hook like that on there. theyre so brilliant at it.

I'm sure they'll have good riffs / hooks, in fact thats possibly the one thing im certain about concerning the new album. I wouldn't worry about that too much :)

they already did in 2002:smug:
