Don't eat lobster!!

Featured Replies

Do not eat lobster!! It is cruel the way they are cooked ALIVE and eaten moments later. THEY CAN FEEL PAIN!!!! Do not eat lobster, crab, or any other kind of sea creature that is killed SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY!!! I know this is random, but I feel like it has to be said. Feel free to comment.

My comment is.... don't try to enforce vegetarian views on people. They don't really care. It's not heartless of them... it's just the way the food chain is. (I however am a vegetarian myself.)

i eat meat, but i will never eat lobster or crab until they find a better way to cook it.

But honestly, you really think it's just lobster that go through pain when being killed for food? There are endless websites that talk all about the unimaginably cruel ways animals are killed, from geese with tubes being shoved down their throats to fatten them up for foie gras (the tubes sometimes rip their throats and stomachs and they die a slow and painful death of internal bleeding), to pigs which are hung upside down and beaten senseless. Did you knwo pigs have the brain capacity of 3-year olds? What about those chickens who dumped into vats of chemicals WHILE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE to get their feathers scolded off? You might be shocked by what you can dig up. It's amazing how ignorant people are of this because the factory farms cover it up so well.

I am not a full vegetarian, I just believe especially strongly about this form of cruelty. Ad I am just trying to notify people, because many of them aren't aware that these animals are boiled alive, and that they do feel pain too. I have never eaten lobster myself, and I believe that if people refuse to eat them after how they are "prepared" then maybe they will stop doing it.

And I do know that other animals are killed cruelly as well, but many people I've talked to don't even really realize how lobsters are killed, and when they find out they agree with me. I just want to inform people, maybe I came off a little too strong.

I live in Connecticut right near Long Island Sound and several Red Lobster/Chowder Pot restaurants. I'm doin' okay with it

^What part of ct do you live in??

Point is lobster is my favourite food and it doesn't really matter to me that they feel pain before they die....doesn't all food?

Yeah I'm sure cucumbers have feelings. :dozey:

Guilford, it's about 20 minutes from New Haven

Agreed. What matters more, a little lobster being boiled? Or the farmer on the other end of the sugar that goes into our candy? Or the coffee that we drink? Or our parents drink?

Shellfish just aren't a good idea anyway- too many toxins. They're scavengers- they eat anything. Which means you're eating anything too.

Here's some food for thought. The first pictures of the sunken Titanic- there wasn't a single body left. Just hundreds of pairs of shoes sitting on the bottom. There was a reason for that...

[spolier]Little Pet Briggins went for a swim.

I used to be a vegetarian, and cruelty of any kind is abhorrant to me, but I need to point something out here: WHen done properly, lobsters don't suffer. The right way to cook them is put them in a pot of cool water. As the water warms, the lobster falls asleep and doesn't suffer. It's actually one of the more humane approaches. If you want real cruelty, look at veal (my boycott food of choice).

But if someone feels strongly about something, they should post without hesitation.:)

Tracie, I agree about veal. We have quite a few veal operations here - I even worked bagging up feed for the "farms" once - it really is sad what they put the young calves through..

Interesting point about lobster! So, they fall asleep in warm water - I suppose I might as well, if I were a lobster.. Hard to relate emotionally to a lobster (crustaceans are on a par with insects), so I haven't much trouble with seeing them as food. I suppose, there is the bioaccumulation trouble with all the pollution in the oceans, though.. Better to go to Sierra Club, Monterrey Bay Aquarium, or Mother Jones' website and check out the seafood watch list to see what's safe, what's not, and which choices are better per the environment and workers.

Anyhow, I eat lobter once in a blue moon. Most meals here are beans, rice, spaghetti, chicken, eqqs and squash, lentils, soups, etc.:chef:

Eat more lobster! Crying out loud they're the cockroach's of the sea, who gives a damn if they're cooked alive....do you feel bad when you kill a bug?

THere was actually one lobster dinner I didn't take part in...the lobster was well over 100 years old, and I couldn't bring myself to eat something that hav loved more than a century.

Don't eat lobster....without first dipping it into some butter.

Now if you want to get serious, don't eat carrots...poor things ripped from the ground in the prime of their life! Heartless vegetarian bastards!
