So people don't get confused, Rolling Stone said that the band want to release it as promotion for the album, not as a single. So it is most likely to be released before the single comes out (whenever that 'May' be... pun intended).

 

So, when do you think it will be released, and how do you think the band will release it? (You don't have to give precise dates, but you can if you want to).

In April, as a downloadable MP3

i voted may but i probably shouldve said april. I was thinking single instead of promo

i voted march as an MP3 to be the optimist that i'm usually not. i'm harboring a tiny hope that it'll be up with the prospekt entry we're promised tomorrow or this weekend. i'm probably wrong, but honestly i won't be let down if they don't because this week has been so frick-fracking amazing that i could NEVER complain.

 

i will be stalking the site tomorrow like NO OTHER. and i only have one class because the other got cancelled, so more time to spend in front of my computer in the name of coldplay!

You have classes on Good Friday? Well that sucks. I'll be stalking the site too, I'm almost certain for a tracklisting tomorrow.

 

And I voted April as an MP3 - because, to be honest, I cant see it being released in the next ten days.

I said April as a physical release, mostly because I don't think Coldplay is one of those bands that would put music up for download. Not because they don't have the initiative, but because they're constricted by EMI. Plus, I don't think they need MORE comparisons to Radiohead.

Coldplay would release it as an MP3 if they could, me thinks, but EMI won't let them.

A few possibilities, really. One is that they could give away this song for free (digitally) and give you an option to buy the physical copy (Which would include some other bonus stuff, maybe?).. sort of like NIN and Radiohead did. This would definitely draw a lot of attention from everyone.

 

Another possibility is that they give it away to those who buy tickets for their upcoming tour as a special 'thank you for supporting us' type of thing.

 

Either that or they give it as a special bonus to those who pre-order their albums via itunes or their website or something like that..

 

My last guess would be that they give/sell it as an independent song (adding B-sides?) by itself.

yeah, i take back what i said about march. i think april now. i'm less optimisitc about getting a prospekt entry this week as well, but that's ok.

i find that when i completely convince myself that something won't happen, it usually does. but this time i'm not just tricking fate or whatever it is, i also don't really think they'll tell us this week anymore

I'm thinkin' it's gonna be a MySpace track, that's really become a standard form just since X&Y came out. I figure a song or two gets put on the player, much fanfare is had, and we all start gekkin' out.
