Coldplay Weren't Speaking To Each Other

Featured Replies

An article in gigwise about they werent really happy until Brian Eno came... I´m so glad they are all happy now! but I can understand it must be soo much preasure, with their family issues and the label.. anyway, here´s the article:

Before Brian Eno got involved, says Chris Martin...

by Scott Colothan

15 May 2008

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin admitted that relations between the band broke down before they started recording their fourth album ‘Viva La Vida.’ Gwyneth Paltrow’s other half said the foursome weren’t even speaking to each other, in fact it was only when they hooked up with the record’s producer Brian Eno that their bond was rekindled.

The 31-year-old explained: “The place we got to two years ago felt dirty. We weren’t speaking. We all had our corner office in a tower block, but there was no vibe. “We had to get our own place and call Brian (Eno) in. We decided to play in a little room, forget our awards and reviews.”He went on to say that after a difficult time, the band buried their differences and brushed the pressures aside to produce ‘Viva La Vida.’ The record is released on June 12 through EMI.

I guess they did feel some fans' bad response to "X&Y" and the pressure to do it better.. I doubt that Chris and Jonny weren't speaking though - which might cause some problems, too.. When there's this stable, "best friend" point in the group..

(Why the hell do they have to call him "Gwyneth Paltrow's other half" though?? Argh.)

All quite normal in the cycle of human relationships under pressure. And what pressure, and what a spotlight to have it under!

But all's good now so bring on the good times :)

I reckon Jonny and Chris are capable of falling out as much as the others. By all accounts Chris is a bit of a handful so maybe if you're around him all the time you just want to kill him :P

Anyway that quote was taken from the Billboard article and has kinda been blown out of proportion I think, all Chris said was "we weren't talking and sitting in separate corners"

i think it doesn't mean anything really..

Hmmm well as long as they are talking now.. and are happy is good

Well it's good that they're admiting it and getting it out in the open and not harboring any hard feelings.

There was this one quote I've heard somewhere that said something like "bands should always fight about their music" or something along those lines. It's nice to hear that they actually care about their craft and don't want to pop out mediocre stuff to sell millions.

Exactly!

That's why the other guys weren't speaking to them, they were being too noisy when they were trying to make a record :sneaky::P

well i might be wrong but i think if their next album would be sound like arobtth 2 this would make the end of coldplay. glad, that eno come and bring them the joy of make music again.

(sorry my english sucks)

EVen though Rush Of Blood is my favorite album, I agree totally. Lack of progress is the end of any band.

I had heard from someone who would know that the pressures of a 17-month tour were what were getting to them, and it's no surprise at all. Touring's stressful...even when you have a comfortable way to do it. It's why I'm glad this album took a long time. I'd rather hear that the band are all getting along than see them push another album through while on the outs. That would have torn them apart.

Tracie?

They were probably depressed by the number of fans knocking them and wanting them ro re-invent themselves! So for the love of God, if you don't like Viva, keep your mouth shut :P
