The "depressing", "boring" and not liking Chris' voice top the reasons. Of course all those reasons are retarded, they're the opposite of depressing, completely NOT boring to anyone who's heard anything more than a couple of songs and Chris' voice is pretty amazing.

I agree with you, bn22my. I think most of these people envy Coldplay success and just can't stand the fact that the band members don't fit the rock stars' cliche. Because it'd be very easy to criticize their bad habits or their latest affairs and so on. Being good boys that make great music is too much to people who failed at life and can only feel better bashing others.

 

I understand lots of people simply don't like their songs, which is normal, I'm talking about the ones who are particularly worried in letting all the world know how much they hate Coldplay.

 

Honestly, I think your both pretty far off. Every single person you see who stars on TV, movies, news anchors, etc has much more money and success than the average person and all aren't hated.

 

Tom Hanks is a nice guy and not really your typical flashy star and he's well liked. In fact, the nicer and more well adjusted celebrities seem to be more well liked. The 2 main reason why Coldplay are disliked, I think:

 

1. They receive a lot of media attention and are the closest to being the "biggest band in the world" if there is such a thing these days. Therefore it's simple numbers that they would receive more hate than lesser known acts. With lots of fans and big selling albums comes people opinions from the opposite of the spectrum.

 

2. Yes, they are pretty nice guys and not typical "rock star". But, let's face it they aren't very rock n' rock to begin with and that will turn some guys off and many will label them a wuss band. Which is about half truth in my book, although they seem to be working on that quite well.

Heh. Interesting posts. (I'm not actually a huge fan of Gwyneth either, no offense. Although I loved Shakespear In Love.)

^To be honest, I haven't seen it, so I can't judge. I've heard it's really good though. She's not a bad actress or anything, just not my style. And her singing drives me nuts,lol. I'm glad she leaves most of the singing to her hubby.:lol:

^Check out the song Cruisin' she does with Huey Lewis. She has a good voice technically, but I've never heard any passion in it. If she sang with some soul, it would be a different story. Again though, it's just my personal taste.

I love how Coldplay has stayed pure and down to earth, one of the reasons why they're one of my favorite bands.

In the UK our tabloids always go for the lowest common denominator - they celebrate the tacky and purile and fear anything challenging or demanding. That rubs off on the people who read them.

 

I have a really great friend at work - we have lots in common, and she's smart and generally open minded - she hates Coldplay with a passion. When I asked her why, she said it's because they're so middle class!

 

I guess at the end of the day, everyone is allowed their own taste, I just don't like to see people being hateful

I know A LOT of Coldplay Haters, a lot of them are my friends.

 

They hate Coldplay because:

"Their music sounds like U2"

"It's so depressing"

I hear this SHIT day in, and day out.

Since I'm ridiculously picky about music and yet can't think of more than one or two Coldplay songs I don't like, I can't figure out why so may people hate them, either. But I do have some absurd guesses.

 

1. They're not loud enough. A lot of people seem to think music can't be good unless its intended volume will shred your eardrums to bits. Don't ask me why, but you know it's true. This is usually what people mean when they call Coldplay "boring" or "depressing."

 

2. They don't make songs filled with profanity; actually I can't think of a Coldplay song that even has the word "damn." This is similar to the above and just as stupid; kinda like how teens/young men like to curse all the time because they think it makes them seem older or something.

 

3. They "ripped off" some other band. I find this pretty silly since I hate most of the bands Coldplay gets compared to (especially Radiohead) and in any case none of them sound much like Coldplay, or each other for that matter. I don't know why this makes people hate them, though; spite maybe, or jealousy?

 

4. The whole "gay" thing. I'll leave off the rant about how incredibly idiotic (and irrelevant) this is, but...this leads to fear, which quickly leads to hate because that's cooler. [/yoda]

 

But anyway, who cares? If someone wants to hate Coldplay, it's their loss...

Yeah I hate those too. And when you ask, "Well have you listened to all of their to be able to make an informed opinion?" That's what I ask and they mumble something back. I fuckin owned 'em. They never say that to me now. And all it took was that lil sentence. Its a winner. :)

I personally think its the success they had. How many people would hate it if a small band alright-ish be this big and be maga superstars in their faces 24-7. Their jealous and just haave to express their own annoynace of Coldplay with overrated amazingly terrible reviews, but I think deep down they feel it hard to believe they actually think their a good band!!!!!

Yeah, I definitley agree. Once a band gets pretty big, people, even some supposed fans, get all hot and bothered and suddenly hate them for no reason. They're an amazing band and they deserve the success!
