Anyone else sick of all this "no standing business"

Featured Replies

I don't treat all new members like that at all: I treat in that manner the people that come here and within their first 10 posts are slagging off others/others' threads. So yes, in a way, you're special. Your opinion is worth just as much as everybody else's but I was a dick to you because you were a dick about something you didn't need to be.

So what your saying is my opinion doesnt count - plus my post was not aimed at anyone in particular - yours was.

Listen, we're both big boys, I dont want to fall out with people within my first 10 posts, so i'll brush this one under the carpet and apologise to all those who disagree with me.

I'll agree, standing is much, much better - i'll end it there.

You don't have to agree if you don't agree. If you'd posted in one of the millions of threads you're complaining about then you would've been part of a debate about the topic and I definitely wouldn't have given a damn how new a member you were. I was new at one point too :S. What I object to is you complaining about what threads are going on here when you've only just joined. It's hardly for you to say, is it?

I also agree that we have a right to say what we want. Basically every Coldplay gig up until now has had standing tickets, I don't quite get why they've (or their management or whatever) changed their minds all of a sudden...perhaps a new stage in the corporate 'league' they seemed to have entered since X&Y.....I have been to the 02 when it was standing for a much more violent, pushy gig and it was absolutely fine, so its nothing bad with the venue's safety! Crowds for Coldplay are never violent either.

Of course, most of us will put up with it because our need to see the band is there... but it doesn't mean that we can't be annoyed about it.

Im very grateful I got a ticket. but I reserve my right to have a bit of a moan about it, because it's my favourite band, and they don't seem to have thought through this idea of all seats for what their British fans obviously normally enjoy; the chance to stand and have the chance to be as close as possible to the band they love.

Yes, that sums it all up very well. Obviously if there are only going to be seats, we're going to make do, as it's still far better than not going at all, but that doesn't mean we have to be thrilled about it. Doesn't explain why there can be standing areas in other countries, but not in the UK.

Yes - and the atmosphere has suffered greatly because of it, especially in the bigger stadia.;)

I couldn't agree more I think the atmosphere will suffer at an all seating show.

Another point is I think the band is playing into the hands of the ticket touts and agencies by making the shows all seating there is less tickets so the thieving bastards will charge more, depriving proper fans maybe seeing coldplay for the first time

Yeah it is. I mean at least they're touring again.. is no one else excited about them touring again???

AGAIN. HELLO, NEW MEMBER, TELLING PEOPLE THAT THEIR POSTS ARE RIDICULOUS.

There's no need to be so aggressive. I don't mean the posts are ridiculous, I mean the number of threads that contain the same posts are ridiculous. I'm entitled to my opinion.

It is great they are touring of course! Great band etc...i think the band needed to communicate why they want all-seating venues. I think if they had come forward before tickets went on sale and said something about the all-seating policy the debate would have been calmer and considered. You still might not agree with it but you would have felt informed and involved.

I think thats my quibble-and I have heard the same from other coldplay fans. The band aren't involving their hardcore fans as much as they used to. Things like fan presales, news, ticket prices, official messageboard...small things like that. I remember early on getting regular emails and news, pre-sales for fans. I just wonder why they have stopped doing things like that? The other bands I love still do that and I feel like I am involved with the band, fans etc. However you classify me-a fan, a consumer etc..I am paying money to buy coldplay products thousands of dollars worth of products, I work hard for that money and it enables coldplay to work. So band and fans are linked together, so we as fans can and should complain when something happens that fans don't like. If we didn't care about coldplay we wouldn't need to praise or complain, so whatever our respective opinions we are entitled to say what we feel about the band. Just because someone is critcal of something does not make them less of a fan.

Definitely!;)

Well......

Hello, I'm a shiny new member. I thought I would weigh in over this whole no standing business, as it was what made me find these forums in the first place. I have to say, I think we are all perfectly justified in complaining about the 'no standing' issue. Firstly, there is the fact that almost no bands ever have 'no standing'. Why have Coldplay done it?

And for anyone who says "If you are complaining, why are you going??" I would say that I went on, expecting to get standing, and found that there were no seatinng. As I wanted to see Coldplay more than I didn't want to see Coldplay, I grudgingly went for the cheaper seats, sadly. I really don't think you get the best gig experience with seating, with standing you feel much closer to the band, and you can jump around etc.

Fine, with seating you can still stand up, but it just isn' the same. You don't have that feeling of being part of a mass of people all doing the same thing i.e. jumping/singing as one.

Tbh if I had known it was only seating I would have considered not bothering....

Still, should be a good show anyway

I said pretty much the same.;)

Well done mate - well said.

Some of us missed out on tickets completely and its disgusting that people are complaining about this.

Nobody will sit down anyway so I dont know what people are moaning about.

Count yourselves bloody lucky you got tickets and stop complaining.

How can you be a true coldplay fan? ITS UNFAIR NOT TO HAVE STANDING. "Nobody will sit down anyway" THATS NOT THE POINT. it's STUPID to have seats at a gig, have seats for old people or people with health problems, or when you go to the cinema. NOT FOR COLDPLAY GIG, the atmosphere will be ruined.

YOu have obviously been to westlife gigs all your life if your not bothered by this.

coldplay are a band? correct

so therefore they should give their fans the choice to stand.

if we wanted to sit at a concert we would see girls aloud or whatever

Agreed. I can't actually get over it, I've always been to coldplay gigs standing. Coldplay are a band, they are NOT POP, so I don't understand the seat business. :veryangry2:

what's the matter with this no-standing policy?

anyways, EVERYBODY on the concert will get up when these guys start playing!!!

cheers!

Get up and what?? Be able to move 1 inch to the front cos your stopped by a seat infront of you. In a crowd of people you move together, there's adrenaline its FUN.

It's really starting to bore me now , we're all here because we love coldplay ! i've never seen them live before (i missed out on the AROBTTH tour and X&Y) so i can't wait , i wouldnt care less if was sat behind the stage , just to be there would good enough.

If you were lucky enough to get tickets but are still going about the"no standing , what am i gonna do" just think of all the people on here who missed out on the tickets !

thoughts?

what is no standing

^Makes no difference whether Girls Aloud concerts are all-seaters or not. They'll still be crap either way!!:P

I completely agree with fix_you_trouble. people are complaining so much and it irritates me. I too will be going to my first concert on July 3rd and I am just thankful I can go at all. If you keep whining about it, youll ruin for everyone else so stop. If you have such a problem with sitting the whole time, dont go. Wait till a Live DVD comes out and watch it standing in your basement. Just please stop ruining it for everyone else, myself included.

If your so bothered by it don't read this thread. Nobody asked you to.

I know it's so annoying. And I'm only getting so wound up because its disappointing. Did you still get tickets anyway?

Of course. I'll make the best of it.

How can I be a true Coldplay fan?

Answer: I think sitting outside the Camden Koko for five hours to get a ticket for the X&Y album launch gig answers that one.

I'm more bothered by the fact I didnt get a ticket.
