Don't get me wrong! I love the new record but I'm missing something and that is, a simple and beautiful ballad. I was hoping for at least one song in a similar vein to A Message or The Scientist. Anyone else feeling the same way??

no, because we have accoustic versions of LIJ and Lost?

I could agree...there are hints of those just in shorter fragments of songs such as 42 and Cemetaries of London, they are there just don't proceed through the whole song like they did with Trouble, The Scientist, fix you, etc

Lost is the closest song to what I'm talking about, but the acoustic version isn't on the album, unless it's a hidden track that i don't know about. Or maybe it's a part of that pre-order from I-tunes. Anyway I've only heard a very short snippet of it so hopefully it will surface at some point.

I'd love a Scientist type song on the album too. Hopefully we'll get a couple of b-sides like Lost? to fill that gap. And I'm not complaining either...I still love the album!

There ARE love songs on the album - Strawberry Swing is one of the best love songs they have ever done. It's also the most honest song they've put out in 6 years, in my opinion.

 

And the song DAAHF is probably the closest thing to a Scientist type ballad, but really its more like Amsterdam in the way that the tune doesn't attempt to big until near the end when everything explodes. So there are flashes of simple beauty on the album, but I guess you just have to look for it a bit more on this one.

 

I do see what you're saying though... I think they might have lost a little bit of that magic from the Parachutes AROBTTH era. But there's a good mix on this album, I think.

How about Reign of Love? Listen to it again...very beautiful love song...

yeah there's nothing quite like the scientist, but i think it might foolish to have other carbon copies of this song. i think theyre are definitely love songs, and songs with great emotional soul. lovers in japan acoustic is that way. daahf is like that a bit. reign of love is a pretty simple love ballad.
