ALL FANS... LETS STEP BACK AND RE-ASSESS

Featured Replies

the truth is that I was dissappointed of Violet Hill but I grew on me, and of some on the previewes, my expectations then became low, but then I heard the album and I loved it! and it was not because of fanatism just because it is a great album and for example I find reign of love awful

Why is this a thread? People have their own way of looking at things, that's just the way it is. Some people like lil Wayne and other's can't stand him. Some people dispise Coldplay but MOST love them. I understand you're wanting for agreement or just wanting to give your opinion. But, there is already a thread like that floating around somewhere called The official Album Opinions thread or something....

I am all for the changes and I like every album because there is something redeeming about each. The only grower in the 4 albums for me was X&Y and when it did start growing it towered! I have to say that I understand where you are coming from. As any U2 fan will tell you not ALL of their albums have been good. Just because they are U2 and I love them, I know that something could suck! So, far I just cant say that about Coldplay. Its hard to say that one is really better than the other. However, Parachutes, AROBTTH and now VLV have all been instantly lovable to me. Each played over and over again to where the rest of my collection just doesnt have the same oompf it did before....

COLDPLAYS EVOLUTION IS A REVOLUTION:sneaky:

I think as their sound has changed and progressed, so have my tastes in music. I want them to explore more and find all the nooks and crannies of their talents. Otherwise I will get bored and move on.... Coldplay's name isnt what I fell in love with... Its their music and its still got my heart pounding....

No artist has an album that everyone loves. Music is subjective, and you can't please anyone. Personally, I think this is one of Coldplay's best albums, but does that make my opinion better or less than yours? Of course not.

I'm just glad that they put out a new album. :)

I've found that DAAHF (I chose to refer to the superiour, less fruity album title) is much more mainstream than any of the previous three. The problem with DAAHF is that many of the songs clearly show Coldplay's loss of hunger for making the best music. Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood were both magical albums and I've found that X&Y (somewhat) and DAAHF (for the most part) are just dull. Sounds like they've sold out to me.

I count myself lucky to be among the people to see this groups evolution as a band. When new people find out about coldplay in another ten years, and they see all the stuff as a whole, theyll probably not think about how much they progressed in their time, but we get to see it unveil before our very eyes.

I don't know why someone should assume that everyone is just gaga for some album because its new. I had to listen to X and Y so much to like the songs. I basically had to get used to them. Now I hardly ever listent to it. I love the album, its just at the moment, its not at the top of list of stuff to listent to. It had some great songs in my opinion, but it wasn't there best.

I think this album has just completely taken them to a new level. There isn't a song I dislike. The comment about it being this big song or story is very similar to how I feel. I always listen to the album all the way through. I don't skip any of the songs, and I don't feel like I ever will, because they are all so different and interesting, yet seemingly intertwined.

People are going to think what they want, and I think this is going to be a classic album. It will probably be hugely successful in the mainstream due to viva la vida itunes commercial, much like vertigo was for u2 (much to my chagrin...u2 is great, that song sucks), but I think its value to its fans will be greater.

We may all look at it as a big change, and maybe some fans will jump off the band wagon. But I think when we look back in ten years, we'll be trying to understand why this was such a "big departure". This album is class, but everyone has their opinion. People can think what they like.

Sorry, but I gave this album a good 20 listens - and I still love it. In fact, I think this is a great direction for the band.

The album is growing on me, but only because I'm giving it a chance. When it leaked, I listened to the songs once and then forgot about them. Were it any other band I wouldn't have bothered going back. But I have and am growing to like some of the songs.

The problem is, they've been away for a while and the musical climate has changed around them. Which is obviously not their fault and nothing to do with them. As I;m sure a lot of you are, I'm listening to different music now from what I was, say 5 years ago. But i do love a melody and if there's anyone who can pull off a good melody it's young Mr Martin! So i'm going to give it a few more listens if only because I feel i've put so much time, effort and money into being a coldplay fan that I'm not giving up on them as easily as I would with just any old band. The image I had of the new album is not how it turned out but I'll just need to get over that.

This is my first post here, so I'm a bit excited.... but I'll still give it a go.

I have to say I am absolutely blown away by this new album. I've always liked Coldplay, I have all of their albums, I've been to their concerts, and with this album now, I feel like I've grown with them or they've grown with me, however you want to put it.

This album totally fits into where I am right now in my life, and since I like to believe that I've grown, it means they have grown as well ;)

I loved Violet Hill on the first listen, and that rarely ever happens when I hear a song for the first time. Viva la Vida, the song, followed, and the same thing happened - and when I heard the whole album for the first time, it kinda felt like 'coming home'.

I love Viva la Vida - and Death and All His Friends :smug:

aww, hey and good first post! Mine was probably something shit like 'hi...i love will' :laugh3: (pretty much me in a nutshell!)

I Just Can Say I Love The Album!

When It Leaked. I downloaded it, I closed my room's door, And I clicked "Play"... It was such a perfect day!!! A perfect moment, every song was so amazing and I was really excited... I remember when I first heard X&Y some songs I didn't like it at the beginning (eventually I started liking them)... But with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, something happend, I could feel the album inside my head and my body, I couldn't stop moving my feet and I couldn't stop smiling while I was listening to it. I cannot try to love it because I already do, and I know it's just my opinion but I think they have really grown up and they've done something really different, as Chris said, it's not something everyone is gonna like, but something different, it's an evolution and I'm so happy they have this new style!!! And I also love all the album's variations! Because I can hear a song and then another and it's totally different that I can't get bored!!!

A Rush of Blood to the Head > Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends > X&Y > Parachutes

VLVODAAIF is an absolute masterpiece...beautiful music.....nothing atall to re-assess.....this album has blown me away.....never been more happy with an album.....LEGENDARY

You seem to have the unbelievably arrogant perspective that because you've just realised you don't like the album everyone else should instantly do the same.

The reason it has 32 COMPLETE listens on MY iTunes is not because I'm trying to like it. It's because I love it.

Well said!

Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends > Parachutes > X&Y > A Rush of Blood to the Head

IMO. But A Rush of Blood to the Head is still an EXCELLENT album.

I posted a couple of days ago after my first listen and said I loved it - I stand by that.

I think it's a really bold album. I totally get what Chris has been saying about showing "the different colours" of Coldplay.

I think the journo's who criticise the lyrics haven't listened properly (sure some of them are very simple, but on a song as musically challenging as "42" why do you need complex lyrics - and I think the lyrics of VLV, VH and COL are just fab).

I think they sound more like a band than ever - no one player dominates the album but each contributes an enormous amount.

And I agree with an earlier poster who said that despite the changing styles, it all hangs together perfectly. It's a brilliant running order and I don't think there's a "filler" among them.

Yes, I have Viva Fever!!!

To those that don't think Viva is very different to their previous albums - what planet are you on?! The atmosphere, soundscape and whole vibe is totally different to anything else they've done in the past. And yes I agree there isn't a single filler on here - every song stands out as being ridiculously amazing.

Ridiculously amazing is a great description!

Especially in regard to Strawberry Swing!!!

what ive realized is that if i need to put this much effort into liking something' date=' it probably isnt too high quality. and the reason ive tried making myself like it is simply because of my love of the band, and what they have PREVIOUSLY DONE.[/quote']so... if you don't like it.. it's not high quality?

that's pretty stupid to say... and also.. fans who love all their old stuff aren't gonna hate the new stuff ....some of them might dislike it a bit but not all

If they kept trying to make the same stuff they'd end up making sequels to X&Y ...THIS album is not X&Y 2 .....being a big fan of the song High Speed I really love how this album has songs that are sort of perfected versions of it... I find it really amazing...

like it's been said before... it's Coldplay..just different

If you don't like it... well.. you've still got about 100 old songs to listen to for the rest of your life

When I first heard the album I though 'oh god, is that it? How boring!', but may I say that whilst listening to it I was extremely tired after spending the whole day traveling back from southern Ireland and I'd been on the road for 12 hours! Next day I listened to it having had an almost decent nights sleep, I really liked it, and since then I have all the songs rattling around in my head all day humming them to myself! And unlike the previous 3 albums, there is not one song on the new one that I dislike.

If you don't like it... well.. you've still got about 100 old songs to listen to for the rest of your life

Exactly!

No one can create an album that every single person on this forum will love because everyone's tastes are slightly different and what may be the BEST FREAKING ALBUM OUT THERE to one person will be complete shit to someone else and just so so to the third person. If you're in the first boat (and I am) then woooooohoooooooo!!! 13 more tracks to enjoy!!! Another tour to look forward to!!!

If you dont like the album then as alejaluvscp point out theres a 100 or so tracks that you can still enjoy. I'll say the same to any one who wishes this album was more like Rush Of Blood To The Head or Parachutes...go enjoy those albums! If you don't like variety fine...but theres a lot of ppl out there who are happy that the 4 albums are different enough so that they have more music to enjoy!

Hope you like the next album better....oh I'm sure theres a fan on this forum who would love to buy those tickets off you and enjoy the tour.
