Whats the difference bewteen the gatefold and Jewelcase Version?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just got back in to the coldplaying forums in light of the new coldplay release and as the title ask, what is the difference bewteen the two versions (gatefold/Jewelcase)? Any help would great as I am a completest, Thanks in advance :)

The gatefold does have a little booklet with images and a apart case for the CD..

both hidden in the sides of it.

At the back just back and songs and copyright information etcetera.

I don't have the jewelcase so I don't know

There is NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever. Jewel case and gatefold both have booklet and the CD. The only thing is that - do you prefer plastic cd case or paper one ?

Myself, I got a jewell. It looks so bright and shiny, and classic too

I didn't even know they were doing a Jewel Case?! I bought my Gatefold in Sainsbury's (a bit naff I know) yesterday morning and that was all they had. I'm a fellow collector, I assume they must just be doing different casing for different countries...

I only saw the gatefold in HMV, but thats fine cos it was what I was going to get anyway.

On a tangent, behind the till they had four huge boxes of VLV CD's, at least 50 in each box. And hundreds gone from the shelves. Not seen anything quite like it!

Thanks for all the responses, Yeah the whole Gatefold./Jewelcase packaging has got me confused, I'm in Canada and seems some stores are just carrying the gatefold, some just the jewelcases and some other stores are carrying both! Whew! anyhow I'll probably grab a copy of both thanks again to all :)

I got the gatefold edition. Given an actual choice, I'd have gone for a jewel case however, because the gatefold edition a. isn't rare at all... it seems to be all the shops have and b. is flimsy as hell (see pics). As a side note, I paid 8.97 from play.com and asda is selling it for 7.00 for all you brits looking for a bargain!

Heres a few pics of my 'gatefold version'. The CD is in my car, so no pics of that I'm afraid.

Gatefold is cheaper for shops to purchase so the majority of the supermarkets just purchased the gatefolds.

The cd for the digi-pack comes in it's own little internal sleeve (like The Eraser by Thom Yorke)

I think they gatefold is sweet because it is exactly like the vinyl. There is even a sleeve inside of the the sleeve where the cd itself goes. It's just such a cool idea to use the gatefold case the same way with a cd as they use it for a vinyl.

Yeah, if you can get it, go for the jewel case. A much shinierm durable package than the cardboard case, I can imagine that creasing and getting dog-eared really easy.

Thanks for clearing it up for me too!

I saw both versions and I ended up with the gatefold, mostly because of space constraints. :P

I've only been able to find the digipack, and I've looked in every store in the county that sells music. Curse you Wal-Mart, for driving all three independent music stores out of business. I shake my fist at you.

Amazon claims that that it is (the American one, not the .co.uk)
