Does anyone else feel that on some songs the production is just way too strong? I love what Eno has done but I feel on a lot of songs that the band and him have so much going on musically that it gets a little overwhelming for me. I love the album, it is by far my favorite next to AROBTH, but I wish that would have toned down the production a little bit.

nope i think everything is just perfect - "wouldn't wanna change a thing" :)

 

x&y - some of those songs were hampered but i don't think lp4 suffers from that at all!

to be honest i think Eno has put a tin lid on his production with Coldplay on Viva La Vida. I like the production on this album. The strings sound tasty :D

I LOVE the strings. That is the best part for me especially on the escapist. Don't get me wrong the production isnt crazy but there are certain times like in chinese sleep chant( my least fav track) that it gets too much

i agree with you there about chinese sleep chant. i'm not really a big fan of either chinese sleep chant or reign of love. They are pleasant enough tho i suppose. The strings on Yes! wow!!!!

I did at first alittle....but now I am getting used to it and I like the sound, The strings are amazing and im also partial to Arcade Fire so it works well...

 

The only song I feel that goes overboard is Lost! but yet it is still one of my favorites. The hand-claps in almost every song is alittle cliche though....

 

9/10 on the album

I agree on one or two tracks. Lost! is an incredible song buried in an over-complicated mix that the acoustic proves it just doesn't need. I'd love to hear a mix of the two, with the simple piano and vocal adding in a few subtle touches bit by bit, and then growing to that huge finale.

 

I was a bit mystified by all the weird noises from Eno on Reign of Love last night too. I'm sure some of them do add that intrigue to the sound that the band have talked of, but it just sounds slightly overdone and unnecessary.

 

All nit-picking though, really, still an exceptional return to very best form from the band for me :)
