I think that the songs like reign of love get the quality of the cd down. If the LP triumphs is not because of that kind of songs. From my point of view they should use that melodies to get together and make new songs and don't put everything they get on they album. All in all, I love Viva la Vida..is their best album..

 

1. That's not everything they had, There were at least five other songs that were candidates for the album, and I expect there may be as many as twenty other ditched songs. They could've given us fifty songs if they wanted, but putting "everything they get on the album" wasn't a factor in arranging the songs.

 

2.I disagree in that, I think the album is individuated because of the those types of songs. Reign of love made this album stand out from AROBTTH because it wasn't as intense as any of those tracks, it was a relaxing song that didn't feel obligated to be anything big or to go anywhere, it's refreshing. With everything on AROBTTH (and even X&Y) being so powerful this one was just a nice concept that didn't try to build into anything epic or overwhelming.

That, along with the escapist (while being far from the best songs on the album), presents a more minimalist, patient side of coldplay that says "This song is beautiful just the way it is, it doesn't need an orchestra or a stupendous crescendo.

i like CSC better than yes, LIJ better than ROL, and DAAHF and the escapist about equally.

i like CSC quite a lot, actually, which surprises me.

 

But we should think of ROL as the parachutes of the album, and it's absurd to include it in a discussion of best or worst songs on the album. Same with the Escapist.

Wow... I really enjoy Reign of Love. Simple, but beautiful.

 

And CSC is my least favorite of the dual tracks...
