I'm trying to keep all the facts and numbers related to Viva la vida in a topic!

I'm finding more difficult this time seeking all the "numbers" compared to the X&Y period

 

Uk: First week (actually three days) 302'000 copies

USA: First day: 316'000 copies

 

Has anybody found this Uk/Usa week results?

We won't have the first week results in the US until tomorrow or wednesday I think.

actually it's the last british single from a band in ten years! after the spice girls also james blunt (2006) and leona lewis (2008) scored the first position (but they are obviously solo artists)

 

and i've read that the last british rock band to score a number one in the us chart did it in 1991! we're talking about seventeen years folks ^__^

It makes me wonder how they classify the different types of music...

 

Of course, Coldplay are a rock band, but for me VLV is a (really great) pop song.

And they're at the number 1 in 58 countries :dance:

Hmm I think you can classify it as rock. Think about Elenor rigby by the Beatles or Bittersweet symphony. Many rock songs have odd instrumentation.

Australia:

The album sold 41,041 units beating the previous 12-month's biggest seller, the Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden' by more than 6,000 units.

 

In fact, 'Viva La Vida' was so big this week that on downloads alone (6291 units), it did better than the number two album by Disturbed. 'Indestructible' sold 6249 units.

 

Coldplay alone sold more copies of 'Viva La Vida' than the rest of the top 10 added together. The figures are 41,041 to 34,811.
