I NEED BOOKS SUGGESTIONS!

Featured Replies

I am over summer holidays but for school I have to read 2 books by the end of August. I am currently reading Count of Monte Cristo, but it's 1,450 pages and I wont finish it soon enough. Please suggest books you have read and liked that you think I might like. I like Count of Monte Cristo, On the Road, Runaway Jury....just to name a few. So PLEASE, suggest books you like and maybe a brief summary so I can find 2 to read (that I havent already read) by the end of the month.

Thanks!!

Try "Slaughterhouse-Five" or "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater," both by Kurt Vonnegut

thanks for the suggestions, Ill look them up:)

"The Five People You Meet In Heaven" by Mitch Albom.

It's about a man who dies and thinks that he was a 'nobody'; that his life was pointless and that he didn't make a difference. When he gets to heaven he meets 5 people that he met at some point in his life, and each teaches him ways in which he WAS important and how he had an impact on other people's lives so that he finally comes to realise that he did make a difference. It is really short and easy to read and, as cliche as it sounds, this is one book everybody should read before they die. I was in tears by the end of it. Beautifully written and one of the most inspiring things I've ever read. There is also a TV adaptation which is great and true to the book.

READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good read:wink3:

I was actually a bit disappointed with "5 People..." because I'd read another Mitch Alboom book first that honestly blew me away: "Tuesdays with Morrie" It's awesome

Do you have to read fiction? Do you by any chance like Blur? I read Alex James' autobiography "Bit of a Blur" at Christmas . It's a brilliant read - really made me laugh out loud and he paints a great picture of what life is like in a band.

Everytime I go to purchase a new book I always avoid this one and I've no idea why. I roughly know what it's about and I don't doubt it's a great read - that's it! I'm going to get it next time I'm looking for a good story :D

Okay, back on topic

If you have to read a book for school I'm guessing it's for English and you may have to do an analysis of the book or something so one that always comes to mind is To Kill A Mockingbird and even Pride & Prejudice. Also Wuthering Heights is good to break-down. Catch-22 is hilarious. I laugh out loud sometimes lol it really is a good read. The Joy Luck Club is a complete classic too - they're all pretty great

Try The Lord of the Rings series if you like fantasy.

^ It's fantastic and powerful :) I read it back in year 10, so years ago, and I still remember it quite well. Great, great story.

I read it at school for the first time. My English teacher was one of those people who could do any accent: she did a great Calpurnia! She really made the book come alive for us.

I will definitely give these a look

Slash's Biography, Its freaking awesome!!!!

Why am I not surprised?:dozey:

If you like fantasy, read any book written by Terry Pratchett, for example "Guards! Guards!".. It's freaking amazing.. Than you could read "The Eyre Affair" written by Jasper Fforde (with 2 "f").. If you don't like fantasy I suggest "Jane Eyre"... or even "Three men in a boat" by Jerome.. or something by Dickens... or "Sense and Sensibility"... or "Dracula" by Stoker.. or "Twenty thousand leagues under the sea" by Verne.. or "Madame Bovary"... or "Farenheight 451" ... These are my favourite books... Hope they'll help you ;)

I appreciate everyone's suggestions. I just want to say I'm really looking for something fiction, something like a teenager book. Like how the Harry Potter books are, and these new Twilight ones everyone's so obsessed with. Something along those lines.

A couple of the 16 year olds that I teach just read "The Outsider" by Albert Camus (its original title is L'Etranger - it was first published in French) and loved it.

I warn you - it's dark. The opening line is "Mother died today"

Maybe it depends on what stage of adolescence you're in - they're enjoying going through a rather black, gloomy mood at the moment

I'd recommend The Kite Runner, or anything by Stephen King.

I'm kind of weird. I read more to appreciate the writing than to appreciate the story itself. And believe me, there is no better writer in that capacity than Stephen King.

I will definitely give these a look

Heres a few books I have enjoyed reading.

Catcher in the rye

1984

brave new world

perks of being a wallflower.

farenheit 451

If you like fiction the most though I suggest reading hard boiled wonderland and the end of the world. Its hard to explain exactly what its about without giving it away. but look it up sometime:)

READ THE KITE RUNNER.

if i could only suggest one book in the world, read that one. and don't see the movie first.

my other top favorites are:

-saturday (by ian mcewan)

-the namesake (by jhumpa laheri)

-anything from the ender series by orson scott card (sci fi, though, if you're into that)

-contact (more sci fi by carl sagan)

-a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (MORE sci fi, but this is hilarious...by douglas adams)

-the great gatsby (by f. scott fitzgerald)

-the gunseller (by hugh laurie, AKA dr. house)
