Viva La Vida Tour - Disapointing Set Lists

Why not Death, Yes, and Cemeteries?

I am hoping that they are not playing these songs as perhaps these songs are more difficult to nail live without the full production including extra musicians. Nevertheless, the absence of these songs is quite conspicuous among the early performances. I hope these don't turn into songs like Spies, Sparks, See You Soon, etc. which are great live, but the band completely neglects (how can you neglect your own greatness?).

Side question. I have never heard of the band playing I Ran Away or Murder live. Anyone know of them playing these two songs live? Each time I hear these songs, I think, "whoah, this would sound terrific live!"

I really do hope they play these songs live. Wouldn't "Death" be great to end the show? Right after "Fix You", it would be amazing. "Yes"is good live as well, I saw them do a soundcheck of it on Youtube. And "Cemeteries"might be my second favorite on the album so I hope they play that too. The whole crowd would sing "La la la la la hey" with the group, it would be sweet.

all i know is that the tour is gonna be fucken cool and its gonna have all those songs plus more

haha coool ........hope u have fun

I think that Cem of Lon would be a great opener! I agree that they really should play all 3 of these live.

WHY aren't they playing Death and All His Friends live??!!!

WHY aren't they playing this live??!!!

I cannot for the life of me figure out why I'm not seeing Death and All His Friends/ escapist on the setlists for the first few shows. You simply cannot have a song so epic and beautiful (not to mention completely ball-shattering the way Johnny, Will, and Guy play) and not melt faces with it live! I'm absolutely befuddled and very afraid that I'm not going to hear my favorite song off the new album in San Jose on 7/18!

The thread for asking why certain songs weren't played

so they've never played I Ran Away or Murder live?

I think they're saving DAAHF as the final song/big finish for the main tour when it starts. Come on, it's epic enough right?? My fave off the new album anyway.

I'm sure I heard a live version of Murder somewhere before, don't know where though. But with regards to I Ran Away, I think this song is so brilliant it deserves a thread all of it's own, a petition to get it played live at least once! Can't see them bringing it in now though, oh well i'll leave it a few days and then probably start the thread anyway...

I was hoping they would play Yes at MSG but no such luck:confused:

  • 4 weeks later...

the omission of parachutes songs from setlist

bother anyone else?

ME !

Dont panic needs to come back .. but then I wont complain because we got a lot of GREAT other songs !

Nope.

Bands tour to support the album they've just released then pick the best of their previous albums.

They've been doing Trouble, they're still doing Yellow and I'd bet good money that Don't Panic turns up in the acoustic rotation. Unfortunately they can't play the more obscure tracks just to please the handful of hardcore fans at each gig, especially now they have four albums worth of music to choose from.

^ 100% true !

hope you're right about Dont panic ! :)

or they can just play more songs and lose one of the opening acts. or come onstage before 915

Definitely, don't you worry about Don't Panic (or should I just say ''Don't panic'' lol), it was written on a setlist but they didn't play it so they must be ready to play it

^ good one ! :nice: shouldnt panic !

In theory, that's still only pleasing the handful of hardcore fans though.

20 songs is fair enough in my opinion, they're varying the setlist, trying new things.

I'd rather have the concise, energetic show we're getting now than them sticking another 3 songs in that the crowd won't respond to and making the show flabby.

crowd wouldnt respond to??: Dont Panic, Shiver, Trouble, Spies, hell even Talk needs to be added

They need to play what excites them. They are really enjoying themselves and are excited about their new stuff. If it fuels them and makes them write another amazing LP I can live without hearing Talk.

And all you ever post is complaints. Why don't you just chill.

anyone who questions anything coldplay does gets met with this answer, i get coldplay can do no wrong for some of you people, i love the band, they are great live, i just think mixing shows up a bit is a good thing, not just interchanging 1-2 songs a night..but thats my opinion..clearly 99% of this board thinks coldplay is perfect in all facets...thats cool too.

I don't. They do things that I disagree with all the time, like the use of looping, for example. However in this case I can't see the problem, they're playing a decent length set, they've included the songs they believe people want to hear and the ones they want to play.

There was a 'post your perfect setlist' thread on here not long ago and they were all so vastly different that there would be no way everyone could hear their favourite songs. Unless, that is, the band played for four hours.

At the end of the day they're playing in support of VLV, so that's where all the music is coming from. Maybe when they're doing a greatest hits tour it would be more of a valid concern.
