Coldplay's 'Violet Hill' Video Nominated For MTV Music Video (Best UK Video)

Leona Lewis, Duffy and The Ting Tings are amongst the acts nominated for a special British prize at September's MTV Music Video Awards in the US.

 

The pop acts go up against Coldplay and Estelle in the Best UK Video category, with the winner decided by public vote. It has already been announced that comic Russell Brand, who caused a stir when he hosted the 2007 Brit Awards, will present the show.

 

The ceremony takes place at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on 7 September. Nominations for the VMAs are being revealed on a weekly basis in the run-up to the awards. Britney Spears, who made a shambolic "comeback" performance at last year's show, stands to win best female video for her hit single Piece Of Me.

 

She faces competition from Jordin Sparks, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey and R&B star Rihanna. Among the male artists vying for a coveted moonman statuette are Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Usher, TI and Flo Rida.

 

Categories to be announced in the coming weeks include video of the year, best rock video, best new artist and best dancing in a video. On 6 November, the MTV Europe music awards take place at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

UK fans can have their say and decide who should walk away with the trophy for Best UK Video at the MTV Video Music Awards.

 

Coldplay, Estelle, Leona Lewis, Duffy and the Ting Tings have all nabbed nods in the category, and MTV are calling on the British public to vote for their favourites. Coldplay picked up the nomination for their video Violet Hill, while Estelle's collaboration with Kanye West, American Boy, won her a nod. Leona's Bleeding Love video, Duffy's Warwick Avenue and the Ting Tings' Shut Up And Let Me Go all snagged nominations too.

 

Hosted by Russell Brand, the 25th Video Music Awards will take place at the Paramount Pictures Studio in Hollywood on September 7, with the Jonas Brothers and Lil Wayne already confirmed to perform. It will be shown on air on September 8 at 9pm. Fans can vote by clicking onto www.mtv.co.uk/vma from August 10.

The Violet Hill video is so totally crazy that it has to win. I mean it is so funny when Chris hammers with the hammer into the air. This video isn't boring. I really like it, but even if they don't win it doesn't matter 'cause I have to agree with Pallavi that "they already won the entire world for their music."

Ting Tings Beat Coldplay And Leona Lewis To MTV Video Music Award

 

The Ting Tings held off competition from Coldplay and Leona Lewis to take home Best UK Video at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 7th).

 

The band, who were also nominated against Duffy and Estelle, won the award for their single 'Shut Up And Let Me Go'.

 

But their accolade was overshadowed by the domination of Britney Spears at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

 

As previously reported on Gigwise, Spears took who three video awards for her song 'Pieces Of Me'.

 

She told the crowd in Los Angeles that she would like to thank "God first and foremost for just blessing me like this".

 

Spears, who had never won a VMA before, also paid tribute to her children during her acceptance speeches.
