July 21, 200322 yr hey you all. I'm working on a screenplay for a little horror movie I'm writing. I just want some input. What elements of a horror movie make you scared shitless! HAHAH thanks for your input.
July 21, 200322 yr well.. just when i read the subject.. i was going to reply: what makes movies scary? the audiences ability to wimp out into little wussies but anyhow, it depends.. for me, the directors ability to inject a little more paranoia into my mind that whenever im in the dark or alone.. and turn around there might be something trying to get me (but not in a cheezy way) that is the reason why when i was alone at home.. and it was all dark.. i turned around and screamed because of a large plant behind me.. i thought it was someone and i scared the hell out of my friend who was on the phone with me
July 21, 200322 yr dont show the 'evil dude' up close! I find that my imagination is the scariest thing ever :shocked2: Jeepers Creepers wasnt scary because the monster or whatever it was, was shown up close and it looked pathetic. Not to mention the script was pretty darn bad  I'm babbling, but what I'm trying to say is leave a little to the audiences imagination :)
July 21, 200322 yr THE MUSIC. If horror movies were silent I would have no problem. But it's that suspenseful, foreshadowing music that gets me :stunned:
July 21, 200322 yr lol. oh simon. the whole damn exoricst movie is a perfect example of what is scary. the music, the setting, the lighting, the voice, the plot, it leaves a lot to the imagination. like what is going on in that room when the camera isn't in there? yeah. that movie scarred me for life. no joke!
July 21, 200322 yr I didn't find it that scary everyone told me it was the scariest movie they've ever seen, so I was expecting it to scar me for life.... it wasn't what I thought it would be
July 22, 200322 yr i find depending on how religious you are is how much the movie will scar you. my athiest friends can laugh at this movie, but my more religious friends have a hard time getting over this film.
July 22, 200322 yr Author Exorcist did not scare me. But it is without a doubt the most disturbing movie I've ever seen. The Thing comes in second, you never know who is really an alien in that movie. Really freaky!
July 22, 200322 yr ok if you werent freaked during the exorcist, then you have problems, not even Frued can help you with!! The Blair Witch Project wasnt scary, but it was suspenseful...only because there wasnt any camera tricks or anything....it was "real" so thats what makes you paranoid...IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!! :sneaky:
July 22, 200322 yr :idea2: Don't do the whole 'audience knows what gonna happen before the actual person in the movie' thing :snore: . Do that...but then have a total twist on things. Do something so unexpected that it will just scare the shit outta us :o . Thats scary. And music is scary. Make it realilistic...not like Michael Myers who can never die cuz thats a bunch of bull  ...do something that could happen and totally scare us with it. Good luck Jakey! :D
July 22, 200322 yr Author and the rest of you also rule! Dandy Andy, Hicksy, Jess, Nadine, rush_of_blood10, Brity, and you KENNA!
July 22, 200322 yr i always thought that music made movies scary, because at least when the music started up you could hide behind the chair or something :o but then the blair witch freaked me out because it was totally silent.... soooooooo as i get scared easily "boo" *dies* <see :/ scary films are scary just because they are called....scary :P
July 23, 200322 yr dont show the 'evil dude' up close! oh man.. has anyone watched "They"?? IT SUCKED SO BAD.. because they didnt show anything and besides nothing really happened throughout the movie
July 23, 200322 yr I've never seen that before. A good story and direction always helps too I s'pose :)
July 26, 200322 yr Author haha yea I know Kenna. ur the best too! I remember the first movie that seriously scared me was Scream. I must have been in grade six when I saw it. I was scared because it could really happen. And I didn't know what to expect, Scream was the first horror movie of it's kind, that I saw. What Lies Beneath also scared the hell out of me. The Blair Witch Project was really disturbing.
July 26, 200322 yr The first horror movie I saw was Urban Legends when I was in grade 8 and it freaked me out so bad that I had to sleep in my parent's room for 2 nights. But that was like 4 years ago...I'm not quite THAT wimpy anymore
July 26, 200322 yr Author I didn't see that one. I saw Urban Legends Final Cut, the sequel, and I was really bored. haha
July 26, 200322 yr I don't recommend seeing the first one lol. I watched it again last year and it blew...it's just like the Scream movies except 5 times cheesier. I hated the second one too.
July 26, 200322 yr Author I watch a lot of crappy horror movies over my cousin's house, and we watch them for fun, because we know that they are stupid. And anyways, I must have seen about five horror movies about Santa Claus killing people! HAHAHA
