What's your least favourite thing about this board?

Featured Replies

I didn't mean you specifically, but fights with Mark usually end up this way.

Once again you've totally misconstrued everything. We were just having a laugh, as always.;)

I'd really like to have a normal, proper talk with him,
.

There's no such thing as "normal". I'm not averse to the odd serious discussion, but most people prefer to have a laugh.;)

They are interesting in a way, but usually, they discourage me from posting and I really think it'd be the same if I left the board or stayed because I get nothing from him, if you know what I mean.

Maybe you just haven't approached things in the right way.;)

For me, posting is meaningless if I know there's someone who'd make a joke everytime about everything I've said - whether it's appropriate or not. It discredits me almost everytime.

This is a total exaggeration. Anyway, if you can't handle harmless word-play, there's always the "ignore" option.

ETA: Ale - yes, but not everywhere threads get killed by puns towards those who are either too serious/easily angered or those who just want the normal conversation keep going. I'm not against jokes, but sometimes it gets out of hand. And I'm all for fun, but some things aren't to be taken as lightly as "I cut my fingernails" kind of threads.

I think those "spontaneous" threads (such as the "ferret" one) are the best ones as they kind of take you by surprise.

If you don't like them, nobody's forcing you to post in them. All the more for the rest of us!!:D

The mean people.

You've been pretty mean yourself at times!:dozey:

There is nothing that comes to my mind spontaneously when I think about this question...

and about the birthday threads: I don't see a problem in those threads. I mean there are people who come here everyday and everybody knows them, so they can at least have their own birthday thread where every member has the chance to congratulate...I guess there are more useless threads than the birthday ones...

Pun of the year!:D

:smug:

Is there an award for this?:P

Where is the ignore feature, I have no idea!!

Who do you want to "ignore"??

Nah, seriously though. I don't have any problem with Mark. You know, at least he brings something to the forum. However many of his puns there is, at least he does something.

I just think there's a better way to organise the board. That's the whole purpose for me setting this thread up. I know I'd come a lot more often if I didn't have to wade through pages of Happy Birthdays and other threads I don't really need to talk about. I mean, to me, a forum is about talking about different subjects. Most forums have rules on no off topicness. I don't think this one should have that because it gets too restrictive but there's a limit, in my eyes.

It's more for the mods and admins to decide, it's not my place at all but it's come up a lot in the past so maybe it's about time we looked at it objectively and thought about how we could improve it. And me? I don't see the harm in making a subforum to the Lounge that has announcements (birthdays and so on, although if it's just congratulating someone, can't it be in a PM instead of a thread? but I digress...) and another subforum that's called something like "be as off topic as you want and talk to eachother".

Because right now the Lounge is a bit of a mess, for me. The News and Sports forum's fine cause you know what you get when you go in. News and Sports, nothing else. To me the lounge should be general topics that don't fit the other areas. Not conversations.

That's just me, I hope someone sees this post and agrees though, at least with one point of it. And says so. Cause I just think it'd help. Maybe it should just be put to a poll or something.

Who do you want to "ignore"??

No one, but when I wanna I want to know how to do it.

go to their profile. then just under their name click User Lists and add to Ignore List.

Thank you.

First person to do it on: Jack:P

Just joking........

Has it ever crossed your mind that the things you find funny some might not really appreciate?

I prefer to have a laugh, too, but sometimes I like odd serious discussions, too.

It is possible, I sometimes see things in a wrong way. Or maybe I just don't like your type of humour.

/.../ if you can't handle harmless word-play, there's always the "ignore" option.
Sometimes I think you do this word-play with purpose to get someone hurt.

I didn't say I didn't like that thread. I think it's a nice one. What I meant were those silly threads like this or this or any "My 12000th post!" thread that I was posting, too.

Okay, I'll stop here with this convo. If there's anything else you'd like to say about it, feel free to send me a PM.

I think we could have a subforum for birthdays and stuff like that. It'd be more organised that way plus anyone could avoid those threads if that was their wish.

You could say that about anybody. That's just how the world is.;)

So do I, although I always lean towards the former.

It is possible, I sometimes see things in a wrong way.

True.

Or maybe I just don't like your type of humour.

It's a free world.;)

You think wrong.;)

this [/url]or any "My 12000th post!" thread that I was posting, too.

I find a lot of threads pointless too, but I just don't bother posting in them.;)

I prefer transparency.

Not a bad idea.

I had a feeling somebody would pick up on that. You're the winner - congratulations!!:P

Yay!What do I win?

One of Annie's "up"cakes!!

I've never found any of Mark's puns offensive

I really don't get what everyone's going on about

Exactly. And everyone = an insignificant minority anyway.;)

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can get worked up over absolutely nothing.

All is good, except I never seem to make friends on forums. Is it because I have a keane avatar? I have a Guy avatar on the Keane forum you know, speading the Coldplay love!!!!

Yea I've found so many good friends on here without even trying :nice:

i have to say that i don't mind the birthday threads, but the ones about postcounts bother me. mentioning "whee, 1000th post!" within a post is fine with me, but an entire thread about it? first of all, it doesn't matter how many posts you have (i just like round numbers, so thats why i'd mention it within a post :P), and second of all, you know a few people are just going to say congrats in it and then the thread is going to die and go to the never-seen back pages of the lounge where it'll be completely irrelevant in a few posts anyway.

i think the lounge is a place to be a bit random and silly, which is why i usually enjoy coming to it. sometimes, the most random and craziest threads turn out to be the most fun, and i like that there aren't restrictions on the sorts of threads we can start. however, sometimes i wish people would think a bit more before making a thread about postcount or something that's just shameless self-promotion (other-people promotion is wonderful, though :D). i also don't think there's any way to really stop people having mini conversations within threads. if they run on for pages and pages, yeah, that's annoying, but back and forth posting...that happens everywhere, and i think it just shows how nice this place is that you can form good friends without ever having met the person. other people can join in the conversation too, which makes it better. really, when its out of friendliness, i don't mind.

but the little argument that happened here, this is pretty much what i'm talking about. at least this one was moderately constructive, but really, it's more personal than anything and should be taken to another venue, like PMs or IMs. and the thing i like about online conversations is that if you get too fed up, you can just walk away and not have to confront it again. i wish more people would do that, or at least "take it outside."

That's exactly it Chelsea!! Very good points :)
