Marriage on its way out??

Featured Replies

You're forgetting the cost of the wedding dress, reception, honeymoon etc.

A recent survey revealed the average cost of a wedding in Britain was £12,000!!:dozey:

A few points:

1 - surveys are a bit pants at revealing anything, unless they don't say how many people took the survey and where they came from

2 - The Average cost, and averages can be taken out of context by a mega-rich couple spending thousands and thousands and a bit more on top :P

Civil marriages as in going to the local registrar office and just paying a set fee for a basic service?

They do exist in the UK, but ain't as fancy as hiring out a church and having all the extras.

yes i meant that... aren't them called civil marriages or something like that there?

well it depends on what the couple wants to ... :uhoh:

but i think that on a relationship should be some legacy in it at some point of it... and may be is that what young people fear as once you've done it you can't "delete" that action/event as easy as other things.

I watched a Cutting Edge program on the Virgin Daughters on how young girls take a vow to stay a virgin and even save their first kiss until they get married.

The 'outdated' bullshit doesn't wash with me. All this 'partner' business is rubbish - get married, have kids. Easy. What's so outdated about having a family and children who know who their actual parents are instead of wondering which Dad they're going to see this week.

Some couples live together for years and years, and have children, without the need for a stupid piece of paper confirming their love for one another.

In these cases the children know full well who their parents are and there isn't a problem.;)

Marriage offers more protection if your partner should die

I saw that too and it was totally sick. It was quite clear they were being brainwashed by their parents and programmed to become "Stepford Wives" in the future.

In my opinion, it's nothing short of child abuse.

It's because they believe in the word of god.

@ David: that is right... i dunno if i've said it before here but i think that at some point of a relationship some legacy is needed for what could happen...

btw how was that report?

It's yet another abuse of religion. They're simply using it as an excuse.

What they're doing is more like a "cult".:dozey:

If people are going to break up, whether they're married or not will make no difference whatsoever.

it was rather good, another good Cutting Edge show.

well i think that that movement is not here yet :uhoh: ... even save their first kiss..

and yes it seems that they have been brainwashed but their parents, extremes are not good anyways. :\

The show itself was informative, but the subjects were zombies.:stunned:

I always smile:D

You should try being positive, or as I say, Viva la Vida!

I'm extremely positive. Just not about politics, but everything else I am. Now its your turn to give it a try.;)

I don't think it's for everyone, but yes it does work well for some people.
