Did you know? There is an upcoming election in Canada?

Featured Replies

Just want to see how many people here know that Canada is having an election here later on in October?

I'm looking forward to it because it is the first time that I can vote!

Doesn't matter, once McBama wins were invading Canada and taking over their newly discovered oil supply.

And who's on the ticket, Briggins?

Well we have Stephen Harper of the Conservatives (who I really hope doesn't regain power but I have a feeling he will).

From the Liberals we have Stephan Dion who is french, which is not necessarily a bad thing but he doesn't seem like hes a good face of the party. If the Liberals had a better leader I think they would have a good chance of winning.

From the NDP (New Democratic Party) we have Jack Layton who annoys the heck out of me. Hes one of those guys who gets very loud and annoying during debates.

From the Green Party we have somebody May haha. This is the first time that the Green Party has had somebody in on the leaders debate, and all that fun jazz.

Hmm.. well, then it looks like the left is split this time? And loud can be OK if they do what's right for the country. Jack Layton - I do listen to CBC on occasion, so I know of him. But I know what you mean - loud people are just so rude! So what's wrong with Dion? Sounds like fine mustard, no? And the Greens here have one as well - I like their candidate (McKinney), but it's a long long long shot, which I may actually vote for if the race isn't close. Somebody May something-or-other - well, maybe that's your candidate then?? If Harper looks like a landslide, then perhaps vote for the one who best represents your interests(?) And since your system is unlike ours, how does that play out? Is this for Prime Minister then, and how does the Canadian Gov't. share power??

I knew Helen Harper, and Harper's lake out our way - any relation?? - just kidding!

I think with Dion people just don't trust him as a leader. He seems to get bashed in the press alot because maybe he isn't as confident as a leader should be? I was impressed with him in the debate yesterday because he spent time to talk about the Liberal platform and say how he would do things instead of just attacking everything that Harper said like some people (*cough Layton cough*) would do.

I forgot one other candidate...which is Gilles Doucepe the leader of the Bloc Party, which is basically like a pro-Quebec separatist party.

I'm not exactly sure how all the government power works...I just know we elect a Prime Minister haha

In America we elect "Emperor of the Universe", like our nation's founders intended. So the stakes are a little higher ;)

I'll be honest, I know nothing about Canada. It's weird, 'cos it's part of the G8 right? But we never hear anything about Canada over here, even though it's part of the Commenwealth. The US steals all the foreign news time over here.

Glad to hear you're ready to vote though, everyone should, otherwise they have no right to complain!

Enjoy your moment of making your voice heard!!!

Sadly no :(

At least you get to elect your leader

i know about it, i heard about it on tv while ago (like 1 month ago or so), or may i had read it, or my dad told me about... (he reads almost all political news...).

good that you can vote Briggins. :)

If you ever come to/move to Canada be sure to drop by Nova Scotia :P. I'll take you out for a beer.

I can't complain, I like it. I mean no politicians or government are/is perfect....but its not a horrible situation either....and I appreciate my country.
