Happy Birthday In Rainbows Party Thread

Featured Replies

haha yeah I remember, we were leaving for a school trip last year and I got up at three in the morning to download it, so I was soo tired... :P

the things i do for radiohead...

Yeah, I thought of staying up to wait for it, but I gave up around 1am. Except it was like Christmas- I dreamed of it all night, waking up about every half hour or so to see if it was morning, and finally getting up around 4am to find it had just arrived. Listened to it all the way through on my headphones in the dark in bed. The best way to listen says I. :smug::nice:

I agree. I've always said this music is best played after midnight. The whole album sums up my insomnia.:freak:

So true, it was just like Christmas eve eh? It was just so exciting. I just had this undescribable feeling when I woke up knowing I could go downstairs and download it. It was almost like a dream...not real.

I don't see myself getting that excited for an album ever again, unless it is a Radiohead one.

i could never choose my fave song of IR cos every is simply perfect. but i can put list my fave radiohead albums

1. OK Computer

2. In Rainbows

3. The Bends

4. Hail To The Thief

5. Kid A

6. Amnesiac

7. Pablo Honey

So is Pablo Honey everyone's least favorite?

ugh i'm so upset that i wasn't a REAL radiohead fan yet when this was originally released. i'm so jealous of all your stories of waking up at odd hours to first listen. i wouldve LOVED doing that. i really hope they release their next album in the same way so i can do that. you just never actually get to do that with albums anymore. they always leak at some random time and idk... i just wish i couldve had that same experience with in rainbows.

but still... i have to give in rainbows all the credit for my now obsession with radiohead. i only had a few songs up until it came out and after reading all the buzz about how they released it with the pay what you want i thought i'd give it a try (i payed NOTHING :-O... but i ended up buying the physical version). and to be honest the first time i listened i didn't even like it. because at that point i didnt GET radiohead if you know what i mean. and after awhile i found myself wanting to listen to it more and more and i didnt get why. and the first song to really breakthrough was jigsaw. idk what it was but slowly but surely i started to like everysong and eventually i downloaded more and more radiohead and finally i really understood them. so now that i got all of that out.... thank you in rainbows for making me realize what an insanely amazing band radiohead is.

I fell the exact same way word for word. This album introduced me to Radiohead and I haven't looked back since:cool:

Ohh does anybody remember the little Hodiau code-cracking that was going on for about a week before they announced the album? (and how I helped crack one of them on atease :smug:)

it was really cool but everyone forgot about it cause the album then came out.

WOW, one year already?! It doesn't even feel like it, to be honest!

Since the day of the release, till now, I love "In Rainbows" and the hype that it caused. It's surprising to see a lot of fans actually responding well to this album because "In Rainbows" is so different from previous Radiohead works that I thought it might not go down so well. I'm glad it didn't, for a number of reasons, but mainly how people are actually agreeing on something quite new. :)

Tell us what your favourite song was the first time you heard the album and what it is a year later.

-After first listen, "All I Need" and "Reckoner" became my immediate favorites, cause those songs were the ones that helped my understanding of the album click-in. "Reckoner" is still my favorite, but I've grown to adore "House of Cards" too (DESPITE what other fans have to say about that song!). And after going to my first Radiohead gig @ the Hollywood Bowl, "Bodysnatchers" is AMAZING!!

How many times have you listened to it on last.fm?

I never listened to it on last.fm.

How many times do you estimate you have listened to it over the past year.

My iTunes library says that each song was listened more than 100 times. So yeah.....about 100 times!

What ranking is it in terms of favourite Radiohead album now.

This new album is great, but it doesn't really top the list for me....

1. OK Computer

2. The Bends

3. Hail to the Thief

4. In Rainbows

5. Kid A

.

6. Amnesiac

.

7. Pablo Honey

Am I the only one who actually likes Pablo Honey? It may be miles away from Kid A but it's still a great record! It's got You on it! Nuff said...

PH is ok... it has a few good songs (Lurgee, Creep, Blow Out, Stop Whispering)... but compared to the rest of their albums it just can't compete

ok house of cards is the ONE song on in rainbows that i haven't been able to get into. i don't know what it is. i don't really hate it but i guess it just doesnt do much for me. i WANT to like it i just havent had that breakthrough with it that i've had with all the other IR songs... i'm still waiting though...

^ It may came one day. It definitely came for me. At first it was my least favourite (well that and Videotape) Now its one of my favourite Radiohead songs.

Oh man, good times. I remember staying up ridiculously late to get this album, around 4AM I think, and I had a 9AM lecture the next day too. I waited so long that i dropped off, woke up at 5, downloaded, listened to it on loop until 8AM when i had to get ready, but man. what a way to miss out on sleep. It was probably my most anticipated album ever, until Viva La Vida. I actually havn't listened to In Rainbows all the way through for a good 3 months now (yes, you have permission to tickle me to death), so I've got to go give it a listen again soon. But Weird Fishes, 15 Step and Jigsaw have been in constant rotation ever since the album came out. What a fantastic album :D

^Tickle tickle!!! Actually I deserve it too. I haven't had a good listen in a long while..

I actually cannot believe it's already been one year. One whole year.... just yesterday I was running outside screaming "HOLY SHIT NEW RADIOHEAD ALBUM IN TEN DAYS!!" Life passes by so quickly..

The image of me tickling Semy made me laugh inside.

the first time i ever listened to the album, i completely fell in love with the heavier songs - Bodysnatchers and JFIP. now my 2 favourite IR songs are Videotape and Reckoner.

i've listened to nothing but IR the first 10 days after it was released. call me crazy, but i waited for that album for 4 years and i really couldn't get enough of it.

the ranking is the following:

Kid A

OKC

Bends

Amnesiac

IR

HTTT

Pablo Honey

imho, it is a strong album and being a crazy fangirl (i followed them on tour this summer) i would probably enjoy anything Yorke&Co produce. BUT this album is far from being their best.

p.s. HoC is a shite song

Tell us what your favourite song was the first time you heard the album and what it is a year later. Then - Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. Now - Reckoner.

How many times have you listened to it on last.fm? Fishes - 77 times, Reckoner - 96 times.

How many times do you estimate you have listened to it over the past year. Last.fm says 544 times, but there's also an endless amount of listening to IR on my hi-fi.

What ranking is it in terms of favourite Radiohead album now. I'm not sure, it's second, I guess.

There. :)
