Q Magazine: Chris Martin Prepares For The Credit Crunch

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed he is preparing for a downturn in income with the collapse of the world’s money markets.

In an interview for next month’s end of year Q magazine (published at the end of November), Martin said sales of albums and tickets were likely to be down as people tighten their belts.

But he has avoided any great collapses in his own personal wealth because he has no shares, he explained.

“In honest terms, it probably means that you sell five per cent less tickets. It’s a fact. People have less expendable money for things like concerts and albums,” Martin said.

“McDonalds is doing really well because it’s cheaper but you just can’t take everything for granted in terms of putting shows on or movies."

Asked whether his house prices had plummeted, Martin said: “Only the same as yours! We have houses and we live in them.

“None of us really ever got into shares so we’re lucky. None of us are really that big on the old financial markets. We can tell you every Talking Heads b-side but we can’t tell you how pork bellies are doing!”

I still paid $100 to see them. Hmmm... ;)

Its funny because in my life I have been pretty frugal when it comes to myself, I mean I will spend money on others I shouldn't, but never myself...with one exception...Music. I will buy albums and see concerts of about 3 bands that I adore, no matter whats happening in my life, its my little source of happiness in this world and I'm ok with that. I don't buy expensive clothes shoes, or jewelry, I go to the movies maybe 4 times a year, but I will see coldplay in concert if it is at all in my power lol.

same here.. I only spend money in concerts and albums...

^^^ and on an ipod to fill with coldplay stuff :P

What he's saying is true, however it's funny it affects some bands (coughcoughOasiscoughcough) more than others. ;)

Coldplay can still sell out all their gigs, Take That just sold all their tickets in like an hour, but it's the credit crunch that meant Oasis had to cancel their US gigs...funny that :P

Oh, are we using Credit Crunch as a code-word for "lack of interest" :sneaky:

^^^ jajajajajajjajajajajajajajjajajajajjajajajajajja

Good one!!!!!!!!!!!

I've canceled my subscription to Q magazine, mainly based on one thing, price.

The idea of getting a subscription is that the cost is cheaper as you cut out the shop's profits, so why when I got my letter though saying my subscription had run out, they quoted full price if I went to the shop and got it every month. It was cheaper via Direct Debit, but I don't trust direct debits with magazine subscriptions as the cheeky buggers put the amount up/change collection dates without telling you.

Thanks for posting! I'll be looking out for that issue of Q magazine.

And I don't think that Coldplay need worry about people buying less albums etc. Perhaps certain bands will sell less but I think that Coldplay's fans are so dedicated that they'll continue to support them! ;)

Am I missing something here? I'm not up on Oasis, but I was under the impression they were selling out bigger venues here in the States than they had for years. My friend just bought tickets to see them at the Allstate Arena, Which is a 15,000+ capacity venue...

wow you described myself...

...oooh what a shaaamee ¬¬ (*sarcasm*)

"it's the credit crunch that meant Oasis had to cancel their US gigs...funny that"

Are you sure that's not due to Noel needing more time to recover from that pushing thing in Toronto? From what I hear, he was still visably hurt at the recent U.K. dates. (Don't follow Oasis closely though, so I have no idea...)
