Anyone else tired of same set list? [2008]

Featured Replies

Folks, let me start off by saying that I am as big a Coldplay fan as anyone out there. I was sitting at home one night in the late 90's watching this mini concert on Comcast and I thought to myself who the heck is this band they are awesome! From there it was non stop infatuation with everything about these guys, Chris' paino skills, Will's constant energy on the drums etc. Their songs were beautiful, amazing, awesome, you could get lost in the lyrics it was all good. Their B-sides are absolutely ridiculous...songs like Animals, Crests of Waves, For You, Careful Where You Stand etc.

SO WHERE ARE THEY? Hey I am not saying you should play B-sides all night at a concert but I gotta be honest, I have been to about 10 Coldplay shows and nothing was better than their ROBTTH tour, even the X&Y tour was very good. But for the life of me I can't understand why I check this site after every live show to see the same set list over and over and over again. Forget the fact that the band must get bored with it no? How is Chris not sitting at the piano and playing Trouble and Everything's Not Lost as a STAPLE???!!! These are the songs that made you guys great, WHERE ARE THEY???? I know Viva is the latest album, I get it but I just don't know what happened to that band I watched on Comcast that night. Maybe it's true, sometimes for us fans it's not good when our favorite groups become superstars. I just want to log in one day and see a set list that I can smile at, not one that I just shrug my shoulders too.

Anyone else feel this way?

stop living in the past........ they have a new album, so is kinda obvious that they are excited about the new material and want to play those songs at gigs and presentations.

there's no way they can please everyone, and even though i would also love for trouble or everything's not lost to be back on the setlist, is impossible for them to have all those songs in the show.

they must evolve, you just can't expect for them <or their music> to remain the same as 10 years ago....... just as none of us are the same as 10 years ago.

maybe you can do what i do....... whenever i feel like listening to those, i put on the live 2003 DVD........ :D

......... and shouldn't this thread be at the live section???

I'm not tired of the set list but I am rather sick and tired of all the people that gripe about it. If they played the set list in the same town every night I could maybe see your point....but they don't. Just because the people in New Jersey heard the songs, I am rather sure the people in Miami would have rather heart broken if they didn't get Viva or Clocks.

:]

Sheffield, Nov 29.

Their first UK show.

A setlist change in order if you believe certain hints and assume the credibility of Roadie #42.

I have a strong suspicion I will be witnessing the first live version of LiTii.

HOW FUCKING AWESOME IS THATTTTTTTTTTTT :D

you guys act like I want something that is ridiculous. All I am asking is why do they have to play the same songs every night in the exact same order? They can't throw Amsterdam in there or another song from Parachutes, or a B-side? I am not asking for the whole set list to be changed, what I am saying is that I am surprised it's the same songs in the same order every night.

I actually I'm tired of watching the same setlist on the coldplaying news cause I can't say I'm tired of the setlist cause I've not been to any of the concerts so... when Iget to see them I don't care if it's the same setlist of the whole tour cause I haven't seen them, the ones tired of it should be them cause they're the ones that play the same songs over and over

I agree. I don't mind them not changing the setlist. I actually agree with everything Coldplay does, its amazing. The setlist is perfect right now. The only song I didn't care for hearing was Yes, and they took it out. Anyway, not changing the setlist works out good, mainly because its fair to everyone.

went to the show at the forum in July and they played yes and what if went to the show at honda center last night and they played cemeteries of london and politik which was badass...i dont care what they play its all damn good. If you go to a concert you will see my point

what I wonder is how do other bands change their setlist every concert.I understand that certain songs go with certain lighting,so how do other bands do it??

I'm just tired of reading the live reviews and having to go through the entire set list to realize its the same one they have been playing for over a month. I would also like to hear some new songs in it but no big deal I love their new stuff just as much

there was one of the interviews that one of the boys 9johnny maybe?) saying that for this tour at first they kept on changing the setlist to find the best one and now they've found a setlist that they're comfortable with so they'll just stick to that...

so i think if they feel most comfortable with it, then let them do it.

They probably played a lot more b-sides on their first two tours because they didn’t have a large number of tracks to choose from like they do now. Maybe One I Love was played on ROBTTH tour because they needed another rocker in their concert and didn’t have enough of them from the album tracks. I don’t know, it’s just a thought.

Also, you’re much more likely to hear b-sides or album tracks of a band’s current work. This is the tour in support of Viva La Vida and the setlist should be built around those songs, then throw in the previous hits that people would be upset not to hear (Clocks, Yellow, In My Place, Fix You, and so on) and the ‘live staples’ like Politik and that is pretty much a show.

I’d rather hear stuff from this album that may or may not ever get played live again on a regular basis then b-sides from 2000 or 2002. How awesome was Swallowed In The Sea on the last tour? It was great! But I don’t expect to hear it on this tour because it was 'last album / last tour' stuff. Just my opinion.

It would be cool if Coldplay were more like R.E.M, who you never know what you’re going to hear live. You could hear anything! But R.E.M don’t have a themed show like Coldplay or U2. The Twisted Logic shows certainly had an arc, this tour seems no different. I actually prefer a perfectly themed show, even if it means a lack of setlist changes.

I feel EXACTLY the same.

All four Coldplay gigs I've seen were pretty much made up of the same songs... I wish I could turn time back and go back to the first two tours. so badly. doh.

and. If Radiohead can switch up their setlist so much between nights, I don't see how much of a problem it could be for Coldplay. Must bore themselves sometimes!

I'm desparate to hear something out of the ordinary.... Daylight, Amsterdam, High Speed. but seems like theyve thrown all that out of the window :'(

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU GUYS! I wouldn't like going to a gig knowing the order of the songs they're gonna play. Like someone said, I'm not asking a setlist full of "not hit" songs, just some changes. Where are songs like Don't Panic, Daylight, White Shadows, Warning Sign, and for god saks, if we are talking about hits, where's Trouble?

this is what i'm thinking as well. they could easily add (or replace) 2-3 songs to their setlist that vary from night to night. So the one day you have Trouble and Warning Sign the other you have Amsterdam and Shiver. I think this would be good for the band as well because it makes the shows more individual and exciting. and for the fans it's the same if they visit several concerts. anyway i hope if there'll be another wembley concert, they'll change the sets a bit between the days...

I like the spirited debate this topic has raised. We all love Coldplay, some of us just feel like the live show is becoming too cookie cutter. It's like the development that you drive through in certain towns, sure the homes are absolutely beautiful but they all look the same. I am not arguing that these same songs in the same order don't constitute a great show, because it certainly does. I am just confused as to how 70+ shows so far has featured pretty much the same set list. Everything's Not Lost, Trouble, Amsterdam, Warning Sign. Give me just one of these songs every now and then!

With a show that they put on that is so technical they can't change too much, but I'll agree that I think it's weird that they hardly change it up, i would think it would become repetitive. But I never looked at a set list before I saw them in Kansas City, so I was surprised and happy with pretty much everything they played. I felt like we got pretty lucky in Kansas City. We had Chris Martin solo on the piano playing Green Eyes and got to hear Glass of Water, and from what i can see those are both pretty rare so far on the tour, he said Glass of Water was the first time in America.
