Still learning guitar and vocals, playing a little bass on my "The Best Bassist In The Whole World" 's gear, trying some piano too and a lot of story telling of course. Well rounded - that's an excellent way to approach things it seems, as then you have a good understanding of the other music parts in any group you're with.. Woodie Guthrie would be proud of you! And I think you have an excellent approach to seeing the development of music, from folk and the story-telling aspect that goes with it, to modern forms (often built upon the folk songs). All I do well at is keyboard and occasionally hand drums (mostly for fun), and I used to be able to play flute as well. Anyhow, keep up the great work!! -from Chuck.

Wow, thanks for such kind words, I feel so unworthy ^^; For me, story-telling is an important part of the process. My music-loving grew up with the likes of Nine Inch Nails and my mind got settled on "a concept-album or nothing" and there's nothing I hate more than the "okay guys we have like fifty songs, let's wrap them all into a nice CD and throw dices to decide the track ordering" approach... So for now, all the ideas flowing in my mind revolve around stories and I want my stories to make listeners feel something new, at peace, uneasy, joyful, sad, empathic,... A whole bunch of emotions :) I'm trying to use different instruments so I can get an idea of the way they are played and used into a song. Though not as good as my bassist (who plays guitar better than me, yeah I suck at music), I still try to account for the way each instrument is used so they can be used the better way in each song :)
December 25, 200817 yr Nine Inch Nails?!:o That's a surprise, coming from a mostly folk musician! (I have to admit, I like their music too - it's so captivating, it would be hard not to like it!);) I'm sure you're excellent at what you do - and yes, I can see your point - to let others mess with your work really can screw up the artistic process and the flow of things. I've often wondered about the tracking orders, as you suggest - some CD's are so poorly assembled that way; yes, so my intuition about that was correct.. Keep them the way they flow together..;) Yes, it's good to get that understanding down of where the other instruments "fit" and what it's like to play them - I can definitely see the logic in that. Things 'gel' better when everyone has a sense of the other musicians places.. Pardon my late response here - time sometimes requires me to jump and get a few things done every now and then.. Keep strumming away on the guitar, bass, and tambourine! Happy Trails Josh!
