Obama inauguration pictures & stories galore! (No arguing please)

Featured Replies

This is purely a thread for people to share their pictures and stories, there are two other threads in which you can argue about the topic of Obama. Thanks!

Anyway, I thought I'd post my pictures for those who wanted to see them (Marisa this is for you!), and if any other Coldplayers went, they can post here too! I'd love to hear what it was like down on the Mall, since I was up on the Capitol.

My pictures are here, although they're not very exciting... I had tickets in front, but to the far right so the risers blocked our view of the podium :bigcry:

Those are some great pictures! Even though you couldn't see the podium, it's amazing you actually were able to be there! :) I'm jealous! :P

Oh, I have pictures from the concert too, here, but I haven't had the chance to upload all of them yet :\

Sarah, you wouldn't be as jealous if you saw the lines and felt how cold it was! :P I was out from 6AM to 2PM, and it never even hit 30 degrees :stunned:

Well, I was out skiing tonight, where it was approximately 10 degrees, so I think I have an idea! :P But seriously, you were very lucky! Aww I'm getting all sappy here... but that's such an amazing historical experience, and a story you can pass down to your children and grandchildren. :)

.... neither was I?

I guess we're just losers then:rolleyes:

I posted on the other thread that when he finished the oath and they said "congratulations Mr. President", I burst out sobbing and couldn't stop. It was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen, and then I was crying all through the speech too! Everyone was crying and hugging each other, it was just incredible. Now I'm getting sappy!

I met a lot of great people too. We were all stuck in line for 2-4 hours together, so we all became friends :P One of the best parts for me was meeting 2 elderly African-American women on the Metro home... They'd come from Philadelphia, and they were telling me about all of their civil rights experiences. :)

Apparently I was really lucky, because they had to turn away about 5000 people with tickets! Isn't that terrible?! I had to wait in line for 3 hours, but at least I got through eventually! :\

EDIT: Hey hey, look at the title! No arguing! ;)

Well, unlike you, I think it would have been awesome to be there :p ;)

It would have been okay if you could actually see, but I don't get why people would sit in obstructed seats in 10 degree weather to see something they could see on TV

It sounds like such an incredible experience, I'm so happy for you that you had the chance to be there. :nice: It would be so surreal to actually be there, at such a historic moment... I'm glad you had a great time! And the pictures are awesome! :D

Sorry! I just won't respond to what he said. :P

Good to know I wasn't the only one who got emotional! Just watching it on TV, I couldn't stop myself from crying! My friend who I was watching it with didn't really understand and just thought I was crazy. But it was just such an amazing moment. Plus pretty much everything makes me cry! :P

^Thanks! And yeah, it was (and still is) pretty surreal... (to strawberryfields- nice username, by the way!)

*shrug* Some people (like my Chemistry teacher) definitely feel that way, but it wasn't just about seeing it for me- I wanted the whole experience! I never would've been able to live with myself if I hadn't gone :P

And it wasn't 10 degrees... It was more like 20 with a windchill in the teens ;) :laugh3:

I guess we're just losers then:rolleyes:

Yes, Losers with capital L :laugh3:

I don't know anyone who didn't get emotional, Sarah, if that makes you feel better!

I'm not sure if you guys can read this without an account, but this article is so sad- I can't imagine what I would've done if they'd turned me away :bigcry:

^ At the blue gate, or just at the inauguration in general?

Zoe, thanks for sharing those beautiful photos!! I'm glad you got to attend and enjoy the camaradrie of so many others!! YAY!!!! :):):):):):):)

I saw the whole thing on TV, and the crowd was amazing - I've never seen a crowd that large in my life! I hadn't a clue it would be so popular; And you got to be pretty close to the whole swearing in!! That must have felt like being at a concert, only better I'll bet!

Dressing warm, and at least it was sunny - made it bearable, I hope?

^ I wore like 8 layers and still froze! I'm still recovering, actually, I just made myself a nice cup of hot chocolate in my Coldplay mug

Yeah, if I ever felt disappointed that we didn't have a perfect view, I'd just look up at those screens and see the millions of people behind me... If my friend hadn't managed to get me a ticket, I would've been one of those people, so I was just so grateful!

8 Layers?? Holy Cats, that's almost unimaginable to me!!:stunned: But I can understand it, since nobody was moving around enough to really get their metabolisms worked up.. :pI'm happy you're enjoying some hot coco - ooh, that must really help!!:)

did you get to see any of the parade, luncheon, or some other goings on?

  • Author

Well we were so cold after the swearing-in that we decided to sit out on the parade. We walked to a restaurant and watched most of it there :nice:

Smart move! Plus, you got to see it in the warmth and comfort of a restaurant!!

I thought the bands were fantastic, and some of the best were the unusual ones - wild costumes and all! (what was the one where they were all wearing giant stars??):)

these are awesome! i wish i could've been there. my mom's work gave her a ticket to go to one of the balls the Obamas were attending later last night but she didn't go... it's still not clear to me why...
