deaths_friend
jack white has formed yet another band!!! on top of the very successful White Stripes and the brilliant Raconteurs/Sabotuers jack has put together a 3rd act named The Dead Weather. here is the article in relation to it off Billboard. Jack White has formed a new group called The Dead Weather with The Kills frontwoman Alison Mosshart. White takes drum and vocal duties, while The Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and Queens of the Stoneage guitarist Dean Fertita round the four piece out. The group debuted a handful of new tracks last night (March 11) in Nasvhille from their forthcoming album "Horehound," due June 9 on White's Third Man Records imprint. Two of the songs are available now on iTunes: "Hang You From The Heavens" and a cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?" The group performed for an intimate crowd of 150 at the opening of White’s new headquarters. The office includes not only the label office, but also a vinyl shop, photography studio and performance stage. The Dead Weather is planning to support “Horehound” with a tour this June [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scJ8ITsZsl4]YouTube - The Dead Weather (Jack White) - Hang You From the Heavens[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEvTfIyOLEk]YouTube - The Dead Weather (Jack White) - Are Friends Electric?[/ame] this means even longer delays on a new white stripes record. but its still new music from jack white so most of us are very happy. if jack does go on to release a white stripes record some time this year, he will make it 11 records in 11 years. deaths_friend
not a single person gives a shit about jack white's new band? this is the era-defining artist of our generation. this is the man we'll be telling our grandkids about. radiohead and muse have done shit all in the last 6 months yet their threads are constantly being posted on. i love both of those bands but i fail to see how any real fan of alternative music can ignore the genius that is Jack White. deaths_friend
i can't wait to hear the album in full. i think jack's left this gap between now and releasing the album to work on the new white stripes album. the Dead Weather will only tour around the US in june with an unlikely tour of the UK and europe. i can't believe Rolling Stone magazine described this band as "the stripped down white stripes". how can you get any more stripped down than the white stripes. No instruments at all?
MrMagpie
I've never really gotten into the White Stripes. I realize that they're a good band and an important band...but I've just never been hooked. Same with the Raconteurs, I listened to both albums numerous times but didn't really enjoy them that much.
ricardo
one of my favourite artists, he's a great guitarist
deaths_friend
I've never really gotten into the White Stripes. I realize that they're a good band and an important band...but I've just never been hooked. Same with the Raconteurs, I listened to both albums numerous times but didn't really enjoy them that much. the main reason i loved the white stripes and raconteurs is because they brought back that classic rock sound of the 70s and mixed it with a great garage rock style. being a fan of both those genre's i couldn't help but love both of those bands. I'm still trying to put my finger on exactly what jack is going for with this project. maybe after the full album comes out we'll get a better idea
ricardo
well, what better than having jack doing sick solos on 3 different bands?
deaths_friend
^^ jack and solos?? NEVER!! jack is in a different breed of guitarist. he doesnt live off long self indulgent solo's. he plays music that is enjoyable to listen to and i appreciate that. burningmonk
I was never bothered about the White Strips, but Alison Mosshart is great. She's the epitome of sexy cool.

TechnicolorGreenEyes
Dead Weather = waaaaaaaay over-hyped! Well what do you expect? Jack White and Alison Mosshart are teaming up to form a super band, people are gunna be excited about it.
deaths_friend
i'm feeling very pessimistic about this Dead Weather project, from all the live footage i have seen nothing has even remotely impressed me. i'll still get the album the day it comes out but i think Jack White has pushed it a bit too far. He has two great bands going already and he would be far better of focussing on them. But, if Jack pulls this off then his credibility will go through the roof. how many rockstars in music history have had 3 successful bands, simultaneously!! crawlinwithin
Well what do you expect? Jack White and Alison Mosshart are teaming up to form a super band, people are gunna be excited about it. well that's just the problem: Jack White can do NO wrong in a critic's eyes. It's astounding! I really can't see the appeal for the White Stripes... it's the same shite over and over. The Raconteurs had some potential, but they're pretty bland..... nothing special at all. Critics even ate up the 007 song Jack did with Alicia Keys. I thought that song was just trying way too hard, though it was better than Cornell's song for Casino Royale. Anyway, it seems that people are crapping their pants over this new band. I think it's just a lot of noise and garbage.

crawlinwithin
^^ exactly what i would expect from a person with the Followills in their sig. really? we're gonna go there? See, the difference between KOL and the White Stripes is that KOL isn't afraid to expand and evolve their sound. Unfortunately people dislike them now because they're gaining more fans and becoming more popular (which makes absolutely no sense). And he missed my point anyway, double yay! hm? you asked me "what do you expect", and I'm expecting that people are going unnecessarily gaga over this new white stripes spin off. So I'm assuming you agree with me that they're over hyped which is a problem and ridiculous because they're not as great as everyone is saying. deaths_friend
really? we're gonna go there? See, the difference between KOL and the White Stripes is that KOL isn't afraid to expand and evolve their sound. Unfortunately people dislike them now because they're gaining more fans and becoming more popular (which makes absolutely no sense). i've heard every album by both bands. KoL havent evolved their sound in any way, they've simply started sounding like every other arena rock wannabe band out there, over produced, drowning in studio gimmicks and kurt-cobain-esque vocals. thats why people are disliking them. popularity has nothing to do with it, they headlined glastonbury BEFORE only by the night came out. just like every guitarist going around now models themselves on jimmy page, eric clapton, pete townsend and hendrix. guitarist in 30years time will be looking up to jack white. i'm not saying he is better than them but im willing to take the punt that he is the artist of this generation. he may be the joke of the industry in a few decades time but im confident he wont be.
