Well this might be what is going on, I would hope Coldplay wouldn't stoop to this but they obviously have no grasp on their own ticket sales.

Coldplay would never do this. It's most likely the ticket seller.

Well, the fact that everyone on here had no luck at all in getting first section seats at most venues makes me think there might be something to this.

Well isn't it the case that not all seats are released at once by LiveNation? I think it says that somewhere on the "fine print" on their website. :thinking:

They release the worst seats first and then release better seats after a little while to ensure that the venue sells out. If the worst seats are already taken and there are still good seats left, people are more likely to buy them as the date of the concert gets closer.

Except that I checked my venue repeatedly throughout the week, and the first 25 rows across three different sections never had a single seat available.

 

But they were on Stubhub from the get-go.

Ace Tickets in MA are scalping all the Coldplay tickets. I tried to buy tickets for the Camden show. They have tons of Pit GA tickets, sections 102 rows A-F, 10 tickets per row. The tickets I was offered were Section 100 row W and in addition ticket fees were over 35% in fees/surcharges. I guess Coldplay needs to pay for their free shows abroad and at MSG.

 

Ace also has the best seats in the center for every other show on the tour. They even have a coldplay banner on their homepage, which is no coincidence.

The same could also be said about the arena tour last year. I didn't see any good seats for any show I looked at. They also auctioned the best seats on ticketmaster for certain shows.

Hmm. I was able to get Pit GA tickets from LiveNation yesterday without a problem. This seems to vary a lot by venue.

Can we please be very careful about how we phrase things. if you want to make allegations, then phrase it as such not as a statement of fact.

I guess I'm just not lucky enough .. had to settle for the lawn seats for Post Gazette Pavilion. Live Nation offered nothing in Sec's. 1, 2, or 3 ... and the box office venue itself, doesn't answer the phone. :thumbsdown:

Lawn seats are good, have had them times before, but for Coldplay .. I'd sure like 1 time ... to see them closer.:escaping:

Resellers like Stubhub have MANY ways of getting huge blocks of "good" seats with or without the involvement of the band. The real issue is how many of those seats are actually for sale. Most major touring acts today travel with staging that effectively renders a large portion of close seating on a venue's stock floorplan unusable. (catwalks etc. photo barriers etc.) In addition, most major acts get a very large section of comps in those sections. (often in excess of 200 tickets all told.) Even if these tickets are not funneled(SP?) directly into resale outlets, the nature of the concert bussiness means many of them will end up with people who will see an opportunity to sell them for huge profit. Like it or not, as long as people pay huge resale rates, there will continue to be a market for these outlets.

 

As an aside, I got GA pit (I think that's what their called) for an upcoming amphitheater show, through the standard channels at face value. It does seem to vary a lot by venue, which makes me think it's probably mostly a combination of factors having to do with venue configuration and where local promotor comps are ending up. Just my two cents...

It all depends on the Venue, City and the scalpers. I got what some will call section 3 row 4. Best tickets, I could see. And I was a second late on the refresh.

 

Secondly, Coldplay does buy up a lot of the good seats...to give away to fans at the show. I have heard many stories about roadies being sent out, armed with tickets and Coldplay trivia in the venue. Questions are easy usually, but it helps make sure Fans get the good seats.

but wait? dont coldplay have to set aside some tickets for the upgrades they do for some big fans in the back?? and some for like competiton winners, etc.

 

i bought pit tickets really easy yesterday for the DC show and they were still being sold late into that night...i seriously think it might have to do with the individual venues....but idk...

IMHO it also has a great deal to do with the fact that Coldplay (like any band) is more of a draw in some markets than others. It's probably more difficult to get tickets for certain venues, as there are simply more people trying to get those tickets. Based on people I know (including myself) purchasing tickets for the upcoming tour,it seems to be a lot easier to get tickets for the dates in the midwest than for those on the east coast.

the problem is the scalpers who have 20 seats in a row 12 rows back front and center. how does that happen? that's why people are pissed. the whole front sections are sold to scalpers before presales.

We are the folks that would go crazy for them and really deserve the BEST seats and the opportunities for meet and greets...not just the schmucks with alot of money. We really need a true fan club with announcements for true coldplay fans! We shouldnt have had such a difficult time getting Pit tickets being we did all the research and drove ourselves crazy with ticketrush and livenation.....presale means nothing these days with the wasy scalpers work. They run the show. I got decent seats....sec 100 row s....not terrible but I feel I should have done better. What do you guys think??
