April 2, 200917 yr The easiest way to be funny is to say a totally inappropriate racial slur. My favorite is "niggerfaggot" because it appends an offensive slur against homosexuals and if you say it out loud, it has great alliteration. April 2, 200917 yr Author Why is "logorrhea" the "quintessential" Spelling Bee word? It's so stereotyped -- you only ever see it in an actual Spelling Bee.... well, pretty rarely.
April 2, 200917 yr I remember one spelling bee a couple of years ago when a kid won it with the word "appoggiatura." I was excited because A. It was one of few words I actually knew, and B. I could actually spell it myself. :D
April 2, 200917 yr You watch spelling bees? lol I consider myself a pretty good speller, but I'm not as good as those Asian/Indian kids. I need a new cell phone. I think I might pick it up today. The one I've had for 5 years now still works fine but it's so raggedy and basic that I feel not as techy as I could be. Over the summer I was painting my room and I somehow managed to drop it in the bucket of paint, but I managed to fish it out with the dipstick. So it still has little flecks of paint in the hinges and around the buttons.
April 2, 200917 yr Not voluntarily. I happen to catch parts of some every now and then, but only because they're broadcasted on ESPN. :p And I hear you on the phone. I've only had the one I currently own, and it's just a rectangle of garbage.
April 2, 200917 yr O HAI. Yez, I haz ceen teh threadz dat yew speek uv. Good God, I've GOT to stop typing like that. :sweatdrop:
April 2, 200917 yr I'm not so bad. Ordering my Muse/U2 tickets tomorrow and I only have half a day of school until spring break  How about you?
April 2, 200917 yr :o You're seeing that? :envy: Yeah, I'm OK. I'm ready for Easter break, though. :p
April 2, 200917 yr Author ...Wait, Violet, do you get an Easter AND spring break? Or is that just the name of your spring break?
April 2, 200917 yr :o You're seeing that? :envy: Yeah, I'm OK. I'm ready for Easter break, though. :p Yes I am, pretty damn excited, even though it's 6 months from yesterday :( ...Wait, Violet, do you get an Easter AND spring break? Or is that just the name of your spring break? If so I'm really jealous.
April 2, 200917 yr ...Wait, Violet, do you get an Easter AND spring break? Or is that just the name of your spring break? No, my Spring Break was a couple of weeks ago. For Easter, I get the Thursday and Friday before Easter off, and I won't have classes Monday, because my college is awesome like that. :nice:
April 2, 200917 yr I have to confess that, growing up in a home-school group, I was also into spelling bee's and would watch it each year. :smart: :bucktooth: I remember in the local competitions everyone else would go out quickly, and it would be just me and my friend Clay. Only Clay always won (that is, the spelling bee's AND the geography bee's AND the word power challenges  ) because those were the only events he seriously practiced for, whereas I was always juggling soccer and tennis and chess...
April 2, 200917 yr Author Yeah, me too, we did that when I was homeschooled also. Logorrhea was actually a word I studied because it sounded good and then it was, like, the winning word for some bee or other... it was really awesome that I could spell it, in a nerdy kind of way. :smart:
April 2, 200917 yr Hey guys :stunned: I've never been to a spelling bee or watched one before. Except for that movie Akila and the bee, was the name I think, I remember watching it with my little sister...but that doesn't really count.
April 2, 200917 yr When I was in middle school I remember everybody making fun of homeschooled kids for being socially inept. Then I went on a homeschool field trip with my brother (who was home schooled) and a bunch of other homeschooled kids. It turned out they were the most mature, approachable people I've ever met. And not only that, they could actually socialize with kids who were older/younger than they were. If I end up having kids I'll definitely consider homeschooling them.
April 2, 200917 yr Author I totally agree! Just because homeschooled people don't know how to invade social cliques doesn't mean the aren't... awesome people! Almost all homeschooled kids I've met are amazing. They're actually interesting to talk too, are usually fairly self-confident (but not overly egotistical) and overall great kids. Except I was homeschooled, too, during middle school. I guess I just sort of came out... funny. Because I'm not nearly as awesome as those kids.
April 2, 200917 yr Well the whole idea of putting kids in groups of 30 in their own age bracket is entirely unnatural. It breeds immaturity. If kids are around older/younger people than themselves (like they were back in the days of one-room schoolhouses) they look up to the older kids and they consider themselves examples of behavior for their younger peers. Group psychology 101. Niggerfaggot.
April 2, 200917 yr Author exaaaactlllly! *hugs Jay* In a small, tight-knit school the little kids all act very, very mature for their age. And the old kids do as well. In a system where all the ages are segregated into different schools, all the fifth graders stay on the same level as the kindergardeners and stay that way through middle school and even high school. And it's extremely annoying, too.
