Coldplay songs that remind you of things

Featured Replies

You know how when you discover a song, and you really love it so you play it over and over again?

Then as time goes by you don't listen to it as much. And then later, when you listen to it again it reminds you of the time you first listened to it?

For example, when the VLV album came out (which was in the summer), I listened to Death and All His Friends all the time. Now when I listen to it, all the memories and the "feeling" of summer comes back. Sometimes it makes me sad.

Also, one day I was going to a baseball game (2 hour drive) and I had talk on repeat. Now, when ever I listen to that song it reminds me of baseball :D

It can be cool, but sometimes it can be bad. There was this one moment in my life where I was really sad and I listened to Violet Hill over and over. Now thats not really a sad song, but since I listened to it when I was sad, now when ever I listen to it, all those feelings kinda come back.

So anyway, am I the only one that this happens to? Or does it happen to you too? Which songs remind you of certain things?

This happens to me so much, just usually not with Coldplay songs. I guess you could say VLVODAAHF also reminds me of last summer, especially Yes, Chinese Sleep Chant, and Strawberry Swing. It for me also brings back those memories.

Its more albums that a strike my nostalgic chords.

Parachutes: A brisk late fall/early winter when I was first starting to learn to play my dad's guitar. Most nostalgic tracks: Shiver, Spies, Trouble, We Never Change.

AROBTTH: A road-trip to a curling tournament in late December with my friends. I had gotten my brother the album for christmas, and ripped it to my mp3 player, but didn't listen to any of it until we left. I still remember the sense of bliss I felt looking out over the bright lights of a city at night while listening to clocks.

X&Y: My first coldplay album. I can trace it back to a camp I went to on the old campus of Yale. I recall singing the lyrics to myself while walking around the quad at night.

VLV: Obviously much more recent, but I associate this album, particularly the songs LIT, 42, Chinese Sleep Chant and Strawberry Swing with the smell of the new Hyundai I so often played it in to and from my way to work.

strawberry swing reminds me of the ride to my first coldplay concert, cause i must've played it like, 382538 times. :D:D:D

Oh, I also associate most of the b-sides with my sister's wedding in California. You see I was meeting my brother there for the first time in a while, and I wanted to surprise him with a compilation of all the coldplay b-sides I could find (he already loved bigger stronger before this).

So I downloaded at least 20 songs including the safety E.P., Bros & Sisters E.P. Blue Room E.P., the b-sides from the Shiver, Yellow and Trouble singles...all the AROBTTH singles, as well as the b-sides from Fix You, Talk and SOS...and I put them all in chronological order.

So anyway I burned a couple copies of the mix which I gave to him in California, and to this day he stills refers to it as "one fresh mix!" and because we both listened to it throughout the the wedding events, we both have very happy associations with those b-sides.

Whenever I hear the BBC gigs, Brixton and BBC 2 I think of the way to Strasbourg for the concert and the way back afterwards...

The Nappies - night after the concert! (When I started to find out more...)

The X&Y album reminds me of working in the cinema... cleaning the popcorn machine :)

I love working there so not a problem

In my Place - War Child Gig!!!!

Whole Prospekt's March EP: Driving to Uni in the car, while listening to it the first time!!

I didn't have time to listen to it before so I had to in my car...

But sometimes it's the other way round as well.

When I wait at a traffic light for example I have to think about a certain song I once heard while waiting at it... or being reminded of an interview part when I walk past a bus stop where I once listened to it.

yellow remindes me of when my dad used to turn on the radio on my way to elementary school in the morning. it would be pitch black [morning in the middle of winter in alaska] and i would sing it really quietly to myself(:

  • 5 months later...

Last year I was in London for a week. When I came home, I felt very sad, and I always listened to strawberry swing. Now, when I listen to SS, I always think of that holiday, in London. It brings back great memories :)

The Hardest Part...me and my ex girlfriend...

All the songs on VLVODAAHF remind me of winter. We listened to it while putting up our Christmas tree so like everytime I listen to any song on that CD, that's what I will think about. Good memories. Especialy Lovers In Japan, and Violet Hill. It happens with many songs though!!! :))))

Are you guys conjoined twins?

From the top of my head...

Riegn of Love - A Wedding on a rainy day

Speed of Sound - Summers back then... :p I used to and still hear it on the radio while driving in summer :D

Strawberry Swing - Having fun on a rainy day :)

Gravity - The Stars <3

Haha ;)

She's asking for specific examples from your own life. Of course everyone sees imagery when they listen to the music.

The hardest part reminds me the first time I drove on a highway.

Parachutes and AROBTTH + the old bsides . I listen to coldplay these days only when I want to get nostalgic

In my place was the song that got me into them.

I will never forget the moment I became a Coldplay fan.

I was sitting at my kitchen table on my new laptop and I was desperate for new music.

And I had already enjoyed Viva la Vida, so I checked out the rest of the album, and I listened to Life in Technicolor first because I thought it was really awesome song name. And I fell in love with it... and then I listened to Lost! and I just loved it!

So whenever I listen to those songs I always think of that moment.

Which songs remind you of certain things?

Warning Sign, i listen to it every time im sad .. nd when im happy nd listen to it it makes me sad :'D

Oh and i remember how i became a coldplay fan, i was watching a World Trade Center tribute [1 year ago] and the background musik was the scientist by coldplay :'D so i searched coldplay and listened to their songs and just loveed them ^0^

Strawberry Swing--Looking out the windows on my bus at the dark, stormy sky as Chris sings, "Such a perfect day..." Obviously it isn't!

Lovers in Japan--Reminds me of springtime, when I had terrible allergies, so to make me less miserable I watched more Coldplay music videos to learn more about them and enjoy their music. Lovers in Japan really stood out to me, but it gave me a bigger headache that the allergies didn't give me already. So many swirling colors...

Viva la Vida--Winter, when I first found out about Coldplay on the radio, and it came on every single day. Also, it reminds me of the time I spent with my friends because we played VLV at a barbecue.

Yellow--The time I went to Washington D.C. It was a great day and I couldn't help but smile.

Clocks--The day my artist friend and I went on a trip to an art college and listened to it on the bus. We really enjoyed that trip, and we enjoyed talking about random things as Clocks played.
