TheNextChris
I originally saw that painting in a book 3 years before Viva La Vida came out. Just a thought.
Corkus
The Eugene Delacroix works pop up in a number of places. After all, they're only about 200 years old. ;)
mrman78
I originally saw that painting in a book 3 years before Viva La Vida came out. Just a thought. Well, it's also on display at the Louvre in Paris ;)
yeahhright
omg! I saw that magazine in Barnes and Noble today and made my mom stop and appreciate how often Coldplay shows up everywhere in everyday things and how truly worldly and amazing they are. It was a good moment even though she rolled her eyes and kept walking.
ricardo
woooow! hoow cool! what a coincidence, I have seen the cover in many old books!! did they know that the album was going to exist by then?!
notlost92
That's not really "the front cover artwork", just the same painting- unless VLV had the whole "GET THE RICH!" sign on it too. :P
marie/pims
They know how to sell.I mean Delacroix's work is very famous but Liberty Leading the People has been used quite a lot in the last few months.Other works could have been used to express what the economics wants convey.I went to a conference the other day and that's the picture they used to advertise it.I heard a few people in the audience said 'Coldplay' as it appeared on the screen as well :) Made me laugh. People have seen Coldplay's album in stores or they own it so...they know how to attract people's attention

a-chan
Today I was in WH Smiths and I just happened to glance at the financial magazine section and on the front cover of latest issue(4th - 10th April,2009) of The Economist Magazine theres the front cover artwork for Viva La Vida!!:D:D:D It just seemed weird to me, thats all!!!!!:shocked2::shocked2: XD Not to me! This painting is very famous and is used very often to illustrate a 'rebellion' idea ^^ To me, I was more 'shocked' to see it used by the band for their album cover, plus with writing on it... This painting is quite 'special' for us (I mean, french)...I think this is the first painting we study at school when we learn about the Revolution and it was on the 100 F billet bank (back when we were in 'franc'), Marianne is on our piece of money and her statue in every city hall...This painting is a symbol of our republic so it felt weird at first when I saw the album artwork..I was like 'how they dare scribble on Delacroix's painting'?! XD I didn't get it until I heard "Violet Hill"....^^

Malcolm-Edge
Its on the front of my T-shirt! We were in Socials class and my teacher asked me to get up so everyone could see the picture and he explained it. Was real awkward.
TheNextChris
ah. The Eugene Delacroix painting is real famous. There's one replica in my school library :D You should paint Viva La Vida over it. That would be horrible to do, but kinda funny. I would have gotten a shirt with the cover of the album, but I think I would get in trouble at school because they would think the lady on it was innaproriate. Lyric
Nothing special. It's not like you can't see it in a billion other places.
