[UPDATED] Complaints against others

Featured Replies

Hi Guys n gals,

First off thanks to those who have been conversing with me regarding problems between yourselves and others on the forum. Clearly, it is obvious from discussions that I cannot please everybody on the forum all of the time. In view of this, I have decided to implement a 'best-fit' solution which requires a certain level of co-operation from those who feel they have a complaint to make.

I propose a three step solution to such problems:

1) Invite the user to put an 'offender' on their ignore list, by following easy to complete steps; if I don't receive a complaint in the first place then I will assume there is no problem. Your ignore list resides at:

http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/profile.php?do=ignorelist

2) If they refuse, or continue to complain about a user having not followed or even retracted step 1, then I will use my discretion by entering one or both users onto a 'forced ignore' list whereby they will not see each other's posts and the other person's profile will not be accessible. I reserve the right to add people to others' ignore lists without warning if I feel this will be beneficial to the community.

3) If I feel that a user is being offensive/abusive to the board in general (not just to a few individual users) then I retain the right to have them removed from the messageboard completely.

I think step 2 is long overdue. I have been going on and on about people not making use of the ignore feature. I will shortly be looking at a plugin whereby users are able to ignore offending threads as well as other users.

If there are users that you would like me to add to you're permanent ignore list then please send me or jenjie a PM.

Ian

UPDATE: 10th April 2009: You can now ignore whole threads using the Thread Tools dropdown menu.

You all now have an Ingore Manager at the bottom of the left hand links menu: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/usercp.php

It's a long story, but he's basically somebody who recently got banned for upsetting a lot of people, including the board's owner.;)

Forced ignoring is a terrible idea

I disagree totally. It's a fantastic idea, as some people clearly need to be protected from themselves as they are so thin-skinned.;)

Forced ignoring is a terrible idea

we all are free to change our ignore list, people had been adviced to do so several times to avoid endless discussions and some people abuse to other users, but since none of the parts have done so, then they will be forced. :\ is sad, but seems is the only good solution i guess since none the parts want to do so by themselves or simply change their behaviour.

 good idea Amins and Co

but i just remember i've said we should had brought back the forum rules and so the slogan we had: "The friendly board", like a year ago to avoid the problems we've had recently :\

Exactly. There are only actually a handful of people this is likely to affect anyway,

as the vast majority of people get on here just fine I'm happy to say, and are able to accept one another's posting habits, whether they involve having serious discussions, having a laugh, or simply endlessly posting photos of Guy's backside.:D

This decision is a victory for common-sense and should put a stop to the majority of vendettas and squabbles in the future.

Mob rule can't be allowed to prevail. There are countless different personalities on here and they should all be tolerated unless somebody goes way too far as Nathan did.

I don't like this idea. Issues should be resolved, instead of people being FORCED to not be able to communicate with each other. If they're arguing, they should be able to duke it out at least to the point where it's obvious that neither is going to budge in opinion any more. If there's an argument, ignoring it isn't going to fix it.

But whatever, it's Ian's board, so I guess this is not really a democracy :P plus most people seem to be disagreeing with me. I'm fairly impartial, I guess, but I'm leaning more to the "this is a bad idea" side.

The problem is that you can't argue with somebody who has already made their mind up or is pursuing an agenda or petty vendetta.

That's what many people keep forgetting. Every now and then someone comes along who thinks they can actually dictate how the board is run or hound someone off the board simply because they don't like them for some reason.

They soon find out this isn't the case and either learn to accept it or go elsewhere.

Forced ignoring is almost a last resort. the obvious last resort is banning.

Why should the rest of us have to put up with watching petty bickering & squabbling, and why should the mods & admins have their PM inboxes filled with moans?

Just because we're admins doesn't mean we don't have feelings. It gets very draining and demoralising when you log onto the board at the start of the day wondering what moans & complaints you'll find in your inbox. Particularly when its issues that could be sorted out by one or both parties taking a mature approach to their situation.

The simple thing if you really don't get on with someone is to put them on ignore. If you refuse to do that & keep moaning, we'll do it for you, for the good of the board.

Oh, okay. I don't know, I always find petty bickering to be sort of entertaining -- then it gets old after a few days or so -_-

I thought you would just go around... randomly force-ignoring people or something. But I guess if it keeps people from getting banned (hopefully) it's all good with me -- I don't like banning people much either. That's cool, I guess.

Who's Nathan??

I think he's Horrific Attack. If it's him, he certainly had it coming to be banned because of his attitude towards other people on here.
