[UPDATED] Complaints against others

Featured Replies

Petty bickering amuses me. I like to watch. D:

However, perhaps forced ignore is a good idea. Will teach people who can't seem to shut up to shut up.

EDIT: On second thought! Perhaps it would be better that if certain people can't seem to have civil arguments with one another and keep on with the throwing of the flames they should be put on forced ignore. Should encourage better discussion, not restrain people having their say.

UPDATE: 10th April 2009: You can now ignore whole threads using the Thread Tools dropdown menu.

You all now have an Ingore Manager at the bottom of the left hand links menu: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/usercp.php

That's a good idea too, but could you please remind everyone that it is forbidden to create threads about other users without their consent, as some people seem to have forgotten or be unaware of this. I'm sure nobody wants a repeat of the time everyone was creating abusive threads about one another.

Thanks.

cool! since i so suck in just NOT logging in anymore, i think this will help me and my thin skin to avoid further rants, if discussion seems not possible. :). cheers!

However, if everyone learns to lighten up a bit and not pursue petty vendettas, this system should be superfluous.;)

Thanks, Ian. This should work out.

You'rebackyou'reback *tacklesquishugnyah* :hug::heart:

Cool,ignore threads feature!

Whew!

Whew! Am I the only one who checked their ignore list to see if any names have been added??:lol::lol:

Thanks, Ian

Have you been complaining about anyone, then?

The ignore function doesn't work on forums in my opinion, and is rather just a replacement for a lack of a strict enough moderation policy.

The above poster, for example, pursued me across many threads over a number of weeks last year, purely because I had repeatedly asked him to stop his criticism spamming on a thread about Jay-z at Glastonbury, even though most people enjoyed the performance and were nicely surprised. Basically he tried to ruin the thread, and that in my book is enough to say 'see ya later, we don't need or want you on this board'.

But he pursued me for weeks, writing negative comments about my personality, and generally being offensive (although not using actual swear-words).

I appealed to the mods about this , and while I have great respect and liking for many of them that I've come to know through the board and PM, nothing was done at the time.

Eventually after mc_squared chased me around the board for a few weeks being deeply unpleasant I had to write directly to Ian to ask that Mark stop.

We were both told (or rather advised) to put each other on ignore. I did, but well what do you know? He didn't and continued his unpleasant remarks in response to my posts, until I was forced to take him off 'ignore' just to see exactly what he'd said.

To Ian and Jenjie: the ignore function only works when a board is more-moderated imho. You banned Nathan and his posts were often rude and offensive, so why don't you have a swear filter like most boards that the under-16s visit - I correct myself, most internet boards in general?

Mark's posts have been just as rude and unpleasant as Nathan's ever were, just in a different sense, and been going on for years now, but you will not do anything about him, despite the people who could not bear to stay on this forum any longer because of his veiled abuse and bullying.

My last post on this. I give up.

This post proves you're completely deranged as well as totally paranoid. You can't forbid people from criticizing stuff. That would be an extreme form of censorship not even seen in China!

Have you even heard of democracy?

If somebody lays into Manchester United, is Ian going to ban them just because he's a big fan of theirs? No, because he's not an imbecile and has a good sense of humour.

Is Jen going to ban somebody for criticizing Take That? Of course not.

I mean, people are even permitted to slag off Coldplay themselves if they so wish, so on that basis, no public figure is immune.

In fact, one of the best things about this board is that Ian can take a joke and doesn't take things seriously unless they really need to be acted upon (as in the case of Nathan).

You completely overreacted to the criticism of Jay-Z and your beloved Spurs, and - for the record - you were the one that got personal first, not me. It was a pretty abusive outburst as far as I can remember, so you can't complain about any reciprocal reaction.

Incidentally, David makes jokes about my football team all the time, but I don't go crying to mummy about it, unlike yourself, because I don't take it personally.

That is just complete and utter tosh. People have been far ruder to me than I've ever been about any of them, but the difference is I won't go complaining about it unless I feel it's actually slanderous. Nathan was one of the few who overstepped the mark in that respect, and belatedly, he got what he deserved. Plus I think you'll find Ian was actually inundated with complaints about him from all sorts of people, not only ones who might be perceived to have some sort of agenda.

My last post on this. I give up.

Let's hope so, for the good of the board.;)

Incidentally, a few weeks ago you were actually quite civil about something and I thought you'd come to your senses a bit.

It appears I was sadly wrong.

I noticed what you'd said about me in that other thread and let it go, but seeing as you repeated your tirade in this thread, I felt compelled to respond to it.

If you want to put me on "ignore" then please be my guest. Otherwise please put a sock in it once and for all, as any disagreement we had was resolved months ago and should have been laid to rest.

Incidentally, as this was an announcement of an administrative decision, I'm not sure there was any point in allowing people to comment on it, as it was never up for discussion as far as I'm aware.

I don't like this idea. Issues should be resolved, instead of people being FORCED to not be able to communicate with each other. If they're arguing, they should be able to duke it out at least to the point where it's obvious that neither is going to budge in opinion any more. If there's an argument, ignoring it isn't going to fix it.

I agree. The whole ignore thing doesn't resolve anything. If seeing a user's posts bothers someone so much that they need to "ignore," then they really shouldn't have ever visited forums in the first place.

If seeing a user's posts bothers someone so much that they need to "ignore," then they should really just stop visiting forums.

I totally agree with you. Best post of the thread. None of this should actually be necessary.;)

Haven't you been using the feature, though? Am I missing something?

Haven't you been using the feature, though? Am I missing something?

No, because it doesn't prevent people from actually slandering you.

This is really meant for those who make frivolous complaints to Ian all the time.

I generally only complain when somebody really goes too far, as Nathan did on numerous occasions, or somebody clearly breaks a board rule, like creating an abusive thread about another user.

I'm certainly not going to bother Ian if somebody calls me a dickhead, criticizes one of my posts or slags off my football team or something like that.

That kind of thing is just pathetic and a waste of Ian's time.;)

If you like I can either publish a link to your original comments on the Jay-z thread that upset so many people for what is recognised on other internet boards as 'trolling', or can make a new thread listing your behaviour if you'd prefer.

I could also make a list of the threads where you harrassed me last year, and the threads where you posted abusive comments after Ian had asked each of us not to reply to each other anymore. As I wrote before I had to take you off 'ignore' eventually because you were posting after me on many threads, so it became clear that you weren't adhering to the request to leave me be, and quite obviously you were writing nothing nice (your actions are that predictable)

There are also threads where people have said they are so upset by your posts that they do not want to belong here anymore. And I believe that one group of girls were so unsettled by you that they created a private forum elsewhere just to avoid you.

Want me to bump any of those threads?

Nathan may have been a blooming rude so and so but I never heard anything like that (that he follows people around to abuse them, with or without bad language, that he has forced people to quit the forum because of his behaviour toward them, etc) about him. I only spoke to him once really, on a thread that has now been deleted I think, and to be very fair to him he admitted he had an attitude problem.

In my humble opinion, it's time you did the same.

Well said,the bullying must stop!

Ooh, only just noticed this bit.

Quite surprised to read it to be honest.

'Ignore' does not work when people continue to follow you around and post abusive comments, as you did to me. When it continues for weeks you are forced to then take them off 'ignore' if you want to read what they said and then defend yourself.

No disagreement was 'resolved' because you continued to follow me around and post unpleasant comments about me. Had you accepted Ian's advice to ignore me yourself I may not have posted on this thread at all about you, in fact you would just be a distant memory (hopefully).

If you like I can either publish a link to your original comments on the Jay-z thread that upset so many people for what is recognised on other internet boards as 'trolling', or can make a new thread listing your behaviour if you'd prefer.

First of all, anything that was said about Jay-Z is completely irrelevant. If I want to call him a talentless tw*t, that's my prerogative. As I said, you can't go around making decisions that only "positive" comments are made about singers and bands.

It's just totally ludicrous.

Anyone who can't take such comments or differing opinions shouldn't be posting on a public board. You're clearly one such person.;)

I could also make a list of the threads where you harrassed me last year, and the threads where you posted abusive comments after Ian had asked each of us not to reply to each other anymore. I could also make a whole list of threads where I have been harrassed, abused, insulted and even slandered, but that serves no purpose whatsoever. As I said, you were the one who insulted me first, so it was actually you that struck the first blow.

As I've said on countless occasions in the past, just because somebody has criticised something you like doesn't give you the excuse to go around insulting people for it.

There are also threads where people have said they are so upset by your posts that they do not want to belong here anymore. And I believe that one group of girls were so unsettled by you that they created a private forum elsewhere just to avoid you.

If that's the case, that's their problem, not mine. If somebody is so thin-skinned that they can't take criticism of Pete Doherty or somebody like that, they have a lot to learn.

Want me to bump any of those threads?

That would constitute a hostile act in your part after Ian put an end to the dispute.

What you may or may not think is completely irrelevant. It's over.

In my humble opinion, it's time you did the same.

In my humble opinion, it's about time you grew up and stopped harrassing me.

Once again, you started all this when what happened in the past should have been left in the past.

Ooh, only just noticed this bit.

Quite surprised to read it to be honest.

As I said previously:

1. You insulted me directly first all those months ago.

2. What happened back then was over and done with because Ian put an end to it.

3. If you had any modicum of common-sense you would have left this alone. If you hadn't unfairly dragged all this up again I would have been more than happy not to have any further communication with you, as you're obviously short of a few sandwiches.

4. If you object to the way the board is run I suggest you PM Ian rather than making such issues public, as doing it this way is rather insulting and disrespectful to him IMO.
