Fucking hell. Because of some of the shit you people have said, I'm seriously considering taking back the statement I made that "most Muslims are cool".

Malaysia is an Islamic country, and according to the religion, every country that is led by a Muslim leader should be led in accordance to the Islamic Law. Therefore as long as it's an Islamic country, it will automatically/supposed to be fully-affiliated to the religion.

 

It's just that some leaders choose to ignore this, but it just so happen that that particular state government of Malaysia doesn't.

Agreed, no victimless crime deserves ANY punishment. Who was she hurting? According to her religion, she was hurting herself. Is she hurting anyone else? No. It's her own personal decision to drink or not to drink, no one else's. If she's not drinking in fear of the punishment, that isn't faith.

Most drug possession offences are dealt with by way of caution, conditional discharge, fine, probation or rehab orders.

I've read all the comments after I was gone, and this is my reply. Sorry I'm just too lazy to go back and quote every person, so I'm just gonna say this in general.

 

You think that the Islamic Law is ridiculous and is not the way to go because it tortures people physically. But people who are sent to jails are always abused and raped, so it is even worse. It involves physical as well as mental torture, for as long as you're being kept in there. Is this not cruel?

 

You don't think that people who drink should be punished, but people who takes drug should. How is that any different? Just because it's common to drink in your society (and I'm not trying to bring down your culture or way of life, I'm just stating the fact), you think that drinking is not harmful. Your argument about the person not harming other people is also applied to drug abuser they take drugs and not harm people. But it CAN lead to more other serious problems, thus it becomes a crime. But so does alcohol. Yes you can drink without getting drunk. But a lot more drink and do get drunk. So why take the risk?

 

In the end, it's just the same thing. You do not agree with the way we deal with criminal offenders, we too have something that we don't agree on the way you deal yours. Just because some of you decided that it's wrong, it's not applicable in this century and it's barbaric, doesn't mean that we should agree and stop. To each it's own.

We can do that, but this article just makes me mad, and the fact that you people are backing up these outrageous laws makes me even angrier.

I don't expect you to agree with every value that my religion is promoting, because if you do, surely you'll become a Muslim already by now. I'm also not angry that you keep on questoning, as long as you do it correctly.

This has nothing to do with your religion. I'm not insulting your religion at all. I'm just tired of seeing governments use religion as a way to control people, like they're clearly doing here. Do you really think that government has its people's best interest in mind? No, it's just about control, and they're using Islam as a way of making itself seem morally legitimate.

Like I said before, it's an obligation to every Muslim leaders to lead in accordance to the Islamic Law. I'm not sure if they have the intention to be more morally appealing to the people, but I'm certainly not against their decision of applying it in the nation.

Exactly. The vast majority of people are capable of drinking alcohol without turning into murderers or rapists, and it's probably the same with drugs and porn too.

And even then the drink or drugs is almost certainly only bringing out something that was there already.

Most human beings are rational and perfectly capable of controlling themselves, thankfully, and don't need to be "protected from themselves by draconian laws.

If indeed they do then rape or murder, they can be dealt with by the law (as was the guy who stabbed his wife and ran her over for refusing to obey him).;)
