'If you're going to cane me, then do it in public': Muslim model ready to pay penalty for drinking b

lol, seriously. I guarantee nobody here is offended. Its less annoying when people are brutally honest than when they tip-toe around topics, afraid of conflicting with someone else's opinion. You learn more that way.

It's a shame cos you get idiots like HelloPaulGoodbye crying racist if you dare criticise a country/religion. PC idiots. Who the bloody hell has heard of someone being successful and getting to the top being nice to everyone?

why do you all need to pull us down?

we just want this to stop and that's our choice because it talks about our religion, that's our right!

*sigh* no, ze_scientist, it is not your right to stop people from talking about your religion.

hey one quote is enough,

but 2 :dozey:

and indeed no one here is going to understand :dozey:

Good point :dozey:

ze scientist but surely there is 1 person in the muslim world who don't believe in violence? Any kind of violence as punishment is for me at least and countless others, completely abhorred.

"Secondly, consuming alcohol is a very big sin in our religion. Someone who is drunk is not in a rasional state of mind, therefore they are capable of doing a lot of other crimes/sin, including raping and killing. So consuming alcohol is not only harmful to the drinker, but it can bring a lot of danger to the people around him or her, hence the punishment that comes with it. As it was said before, alcohol consumption has the pros and cons, but the cons is much greater than the pros."

Hang on Zeya people can drink without getting drunk. I see where you are coming from but murders , beatings etc happen in all countries and drink CERTAINLY is not the sole reason for murder, rape numbers and plays a very insignificant role in these numbers.

I think Mark has every right to post these articles as most of us shall not and WILL never condone violence and the articles bring in some healthy debate. Do Muslims believe in reformation? I congratulate Mark for bringing up these subjects many of us feel is wrong.

Exactly. These are all legitimate news stories (not fabrications) and people need to be adult about this.

The fact is that it's ludicrous in this day and age that anyone should be "flogged", especially when it's for something as petty as drinking alcohol.

Whatever way you look at it, it's barbaric, and should be stopped immediately.

If it really is regarded as a criminal offence, surely this could be dealt with by way of a caution, community service or even a few days behind bars if needs be.

Corporal punishment belongs to the dark ages, not the 21st century.

This has nothing to do with religion, just human rights and common decency.;)

He's not making remarks, (or saying anything for that matter) just posting articles about serious things going on in the world. Do you consider the article about a woman willing to get caned for drinking alcohol racist? just because it involves islam?

Exactly. It just goes to show how pathetic some people can be. Surely any decent-minded individual can see that thrashing someone merely for drinking alcohol is extremely draconian, no matter which country it happens in.:dozey:

Exactly. We are living in the 21st century and NOT medieval days. It's time to get with the times.

I'm aware of that, I know there's been an increase in islam-related articles every since that idiotic headscarf ban argument. But Mark didn't write the article (which is very fairly written), and I find it amazing that everyone so far has attacked Mark, and not even bothered to comment on the very real atrocity in the article.

Thanks for your astute observations. These are legitimate news stories published in the press.

If people want to say they're in favour of such draconian laws/punishments, then fair enough, but until people are treated a bit more humanely, these stories are likely to keep surfacing.;)

I know, but we've faced so much of insults from Mark that this post has ticked us off. I don't mind if anyone wants to talk about atrocity, but coming from Mark, we know that it will always lead to offence and insults.

Only if people are incapable of discussing matters in a civilised manner and refraining from flying off the handle.;)

40 lashes for drinking beer. Does punishment in the Muslim world always have to revolve around violence? No. Most factions in Christianity (except Catholic etc) allow gays and women to be ministers so why doesn't Islam get with the times and relax?

Exactly. Draconian punishments and misogyny have no place in modern society whatsoever.;)

Spot on.

The Daily Male reader is coming out against misogyny???

Now I've seen everything!

How many people are executed in the US every year? I believe were the second worst in the modern world behind China.

We imprison a large portion of our population for carrying around a plant, we don't have a lot of room to stand on moral high ground.

Every nation has problems like this, every culture and religion.

Exactly. We are living in the 21st century and NOT medieval days. It's time to get with the times.

Were so modern our armies still carry out genocides in foreign nations. And give money and weapons to nations to do it when we can't...yeah were really a moral light in the modern world....

I don't think this will change your perspective on this matter, but I will try my best to explain this regardless.

Firstly, there are many stages that Muslims has to go through before a punishment is carried out. Judging, defending and everything else is done through this. I'm not sure about the stages myself as I have yet to learn everything about my religion. After everything is taken into consideration, only then the punishment for a person is decided. Therefore, we do not simply catch someone who commits a sin and punish them unfairly.

Secondly, consuming alcohol is a very big sin in our religion. As it was said before, alcohol consumption has the pros and cons, but the cons is much greater than the pros.

I hardly drink any alcohol myself, and think many people drink way too much, but that still doesn't justify people being flogged for drinking alcohol, which is simply barbaric.;)

If someone was flogged for carrying around a plant, that would also be draconian.;)

is there a problem with that? Perception gathers information, information is formulated into ideas, out of ideas come judgments and opinions. The ability to interact this way with the world around you is a beautiful part of being human. By all means, judge me and my religion, I encourage it. In any case, I'm sure Josh was talking more about oppressive government than anything else...

Yes, this is all about oppression and draconian laws, nothing else.;)

If someone was flogged for carrying around a plant, that would also be draconian.;)

So being put in a prison for years where they are potentially beaten or raped is humane?

Slaughtering people because there government doesn't do what our government wants isn't draconian?!

Matthew 7:3-5 (New International Version)

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Lets first deal with our problems and injustices before we go on a moral crusade against others.

it´s still stupid.

especially when people get all pissed and stuff when this subject is brought up.

Then they should learn to be more adult about it in the first place.;)

You are entitled to your opinion regarding such injustices. People sent to prison should be protected from physical abuse and violence, of course.;)
