South African runner Caster Semenya, who is at the center of a gender row, has been placed on suicide watch amid fears for her mental stability.

 

The Daily Star quoted officials as saying that psychologists are caring the 18-year-old round-the- clock after it was claimed tests had proved she was a hermaphrodite.

 

Leaked details of the probe by the ­International Association of ­Athletics Federations showed the 800m starlet had male and female sex organs - but no womb.

 

Lawmaker Butana Komphela, chair of South Africa's sports committee, was quoted as saying: "She is like a raped person. She is afraid of herself and does not want anyone near her. If she commits suicide, it will be on all our heads. The best we can do is protect her and look out for her during this trying time."

 

South African athletics officials confirmed Semenya is now receiving trauma counselling at the University of Pretoria.

 

Caster has not competed since the World Athletics Championships last month when the IAAF ordered gender tests on her amid claims she might be male.

Wow, that's really sad.

It just pisses me off cos they should have just left her alone. Yeah she sorta looks like a guy, but the media had to find out and go around telling everyone about it. They also shouldn't have released the test's results, it's nobody's buisness to know that stuff.

Then the South African Athletics Federation (or whatever they're called) should have done something about it before she got anywhere near the World Championships instead of burying their heads in the sand.

It was clear to everyone that something wasn't right (her performances were "unnatural" for a start), and people were complaining way before the championships.

The SAAF were obviously thinking of themselves before "her", and that's unforgivable.

They let things get way out of hand, which is a disgrace.:angry:

 

Having her in that race ruined it for all the other runners too.

I don't understand why they don't have a ob-gyn on staff to check out their privates. I'd gladly flash my willy at a doctor if it meant I could have a shot at beating Rodger Federer or some runner.

What's "in your mind" is irrelevant as usual. If nothing else, the levels of testosterone would exceed the permissible amount (just as in the case of drug cheats), in which case "she" would have to be banned anyway.:smug:

She is female. There is no denying that she is female, she has a vagina, she doesn't have a penis, this is the way she was born. To do a test on her testosterone levels to determine if she is female is redefining what makes a certain gender what it is.

 

You say the treatment she's had is disgusting and then you refer to her as "she" you're just as bad as they are.

To be honest, I dont know much about this case whether Cater is a man or a woman.

 

But, in my personal opinion, does it really matter? I feel people are making this issue bigger than it should be.

It is when it gives someone an unfair advantage, as it did in this case. I watched the race, and it was a total farce.;)
