September 17, 200322 yr Author A cleaner has been charged by police over an alleged attempt to cut off magician David Blaine's water supply. Stephen Charles Field, 38, was charged with using threatening behaviour and causing criminal damage. He is alleged to have climbed a scaffold support tower connected to Blaine's perspex cage, which is suspended near Tower Bridge in London, and to have tried to cut the line which delivers water to the illusionist. Field, of Godalming, Surrey was released on bail and will appear at Tower Bridge magistrates court on September 30. He was arrested after Blaine, who is part way through a 44-day starvation stunt, was woken just before 5am by a man climbing the scaffold. According to witnesses the man tugged at mooring cables, rocking Blaine's makeshift home and shouting: "Go home David, go back to America. We don't want you here." As well as trying to cut through the water line Field is also accused of throwing bottles and other objects before coming down of his own accord after around half-an-hour. Blaine, a 30-year-old New Yorker, has faced a backlash from the British public after launching his stunt. He has had eggs, golf balls and insults hurled by passers-by aiming to provoke a reaction. Others have bared their breasts or bottoms or banged drums to keep him awake at night.
September 17, 200322 yr Author An expert says David Blaine should fall unconscious long before he reaches 44 days in his box without food if his stunt is genuineBlaine, known for his feats of endurance, has been living inside a plastic box suspended beside Tower Bridge in London since September 5. The New Scientist magazine says his body will soon start to get seriously short of salt if, as is claimed, his only nourishment is pure water. After three weeks, this would be expected to force down his blood pressure, making him dizzy and eventually he should pass out. The magazine said even Irish republican hunger strikers took salt supplements to avoid this. "It looks as though Blaine cannot win. If he does take just plain water, he will be unconscious by the end of September and the stunt will end early," writes Graham Lawton. "If he lasts the distance, on the other hand, it will be highly likely he has been lying to us." Blaine's publicists insist he is drinking only pure water. "His urine is being monitored and tested daily. His medical team are aware of the risks," one said.

Short-term side effects are likely to include faintness, dizziness and confusion. David has already reported feeling giddy when he stands. it is now thought to have lost more than 10lbs in weight, which is as expected.
