mc_squared
Actually some scientific studies have shown that exercise IS AS EFFECTIVE as anti-depressants in some patients with clinical depression, but that is not what this thread is about. That's true. I'm a big "believer" in exercise anyway, for a number of reasons.;)
mc_squared
yes and some meds kill your feelings. I can't feel really low but you can't feel really high either. Some meds make you feel pretty happy and you don't realize that you really aren't that happy after all. and if you don't take your meds.. little electric shocks in your brain and other fun stuff. nice I am also a strong believer in avoiding "meds" wherever possible. However, sometimes there's no alternative.;)
Verussia
You know what's really cliche, but really helps? Dancing. Seriously. Just let it all out and dance around your room like a maniac. It works, I tell you. Thnx!I'll try!;) cookies. No!No more cookies!!!:dead:in the final analysis they only assist in gaining weight:\ that will only make things worth...but thank you! :escaping: Listen to music that has just ridiculous lyrics. Like Single Ladies I guess the video to that song is no less ridiculous! Not talking about a cover with Justin Timberlake!  ^However, clinical depression can't be solved by any of those things. Only medication will help.;) I don't think we are talking about some clinical depression...:uhoh: that's the causes of your 'depression'? ohkay.. listen to Sufjan Stevens. Oh, I like it!Very relaxing, thank you!  Maybe the problem is that I study too hard and don't have enough time for myself and I lack people support too:hug:. I'm afraid of my old friends to turn away from me as all we entered universities, everybody has some kind of a new life...and for me it's very difficult to find new friends in a new place:shrug: though i understand, it usually takes quite a lot of time! MK
I was kinda "depressed" yesterday. When it's only a bad mood, physical activity helps me a lot, but yesterday I wasn't able to do any cos I was also exhausted, which caused lack of concentration, and since I train aikido going to the training wasn't the best thing to do, so I stayed at home. I decided to go to sleep early, and I woke up 12 hours later, feeling excellent. Listening to music doesn't always help me. When it does, I tend to play the same songs over and over or listen to only 1 or 2 artists. My choice is usually Radiohead (but NOT always, it depends on why I'm "depressed"). Their music helps me feel better in "stages" which means it's not an instant anti-depressant, but works very well. So if you feel tired and sad, you definitely have to take a rest for at least a day. Have a good sleep and do things that you really want to do. Don't make plans, important decisions for a day or two.

Matter-Eater Lad
I've been on a million meds for depression but nothing really works well. I hate anti-depressants they just made me feel numb. I still get depressed a lot but I realize it's a chemical imbalance and I don't play into it and think negative thoughts. If I can I like to exercise when depressed, run or play racquetball. When I was young I was a fool and when I was depressed thought horrible thoughts that lead to being more depressed and that led to doing stupid things.
