Future did just that a little bit this year, at least with the addition of Tame Impala. They don't exactly fit into either techno or electronic as genres.

I'd love to see the return of V fest! Too many festivals might prove too much for the wallet, though...

Laneway is probably going to be a given for me as well though. It was so amazing this year! Anyway. I'm going to stop thinking about summer festivals for a while and focus on the closer, bigger winter festival approaching us! :awesome:

Oh and Jamie, the Splendour vehicle campground passes went on sale this morning, I don't know if you'll be needing one but if you do I'd get in quick to make sure you can arrive on the day you want to!

nah man i'm flying up. tiger airfares ended up costing me about 80 bucks return so no need to drive. and the train from the airport to the town are pretty frequent so going there and back should be no sweat. :)

Promoter : hey guys we've had a late cancellation could you guys maybe play for us at the Future Music Festival

Tame Impala : farrrkkkk! the future? i always thought that could happen one day. so which year is it in? always wanted to go 2025!

Promoter: uummmm 2011 actually.....so is that a yes?

Tame Impala : fark me dead! 2011 aye? sounds sweet to me bro......farrrkk can't wait for the future

Ahahahaha, I want to see them again. They're so great :wacky:

Despite the bassist only looking like he's about 15 and all...

I wonder when we'll start hearing some new material from them?

i really don't see anything new coming from them this year. and going by how long it took them to make their debut i'm not sure we'll get anything next year either. and i wouldn't be surprised if kevin parker decided to do a different project but imo the smart thing to do would be to cash in on this success and hype and get a sophomore record out there asap.

I wish they would. But at the same time I can't really see anything coming out for a while either. And I'd like them to take the time to make a GOOD sophomore. I'll hope for next year.

So I'm trying to make a list of Aussie albums that have come out this year, and so far I have:

Art vs Science - The Experiment

Cut Copy - Zonoscope

The Middle East - I Want That You Are Always Happy

Sparkadia - The Great Impression

And that's it. In six months :P

All I have on my iTunes, anyway. What am I missing?

I honestly wouldn't mind if they made LP2 and broke up. Innerspeaker is so good I wouldn't care, except then there would be no reputable aussie bands anymore.

You're missing:

Tim and Jean - Like What (but its nothing special)

Architecture In Helsinki - Contact High (I didn't like this at all)

Oh Mercy - Great Barrier Grief (same as tim and jean)

The Paradise Motel - I Still Hear Your Voice At Night (I showed you guys them, but honestly, I havent listened to the new album much at all)

Seekae - DOME (alright in my opinion)

Absence - Snowman (need to listen to this more before I have an opinion)

Thanks Bryce. I'll have to give some of them a listen, I was aware of most of those being released but had forgotten about them, haha.

i listened to Trial Kennedy's Living Undesigned and gawd it is sooo repetitive and bland!

come on The Panics!! save us

Who knows, perhaps 2011's Tame Impala will jump up out of nowhere and just blow us all away completely. We can only hope.

now that coldplay have infected WoM i might as well go along with it on here.

i just watched Coldplay's performance at rock am ring and i wondered. if they play that same set at splendour. how will it go down? will the crowd chant along to viva la vida? will they get excited about Lost? will they give two shits about the new material? will the band realise who they're playing to and play a set that is focused on their first 3 albums?

so much curiosity!

I'm a little bit confused with your post lol. What do you mean by "will they realise who they're playing to?"

Well, it's just another big festival, just on the other side of the world. Judging by their performance that I saw in Melb, the crowd pretty much reacted as I'd seen in any other video of them playing live so I'm only guessing it will be the same. I'm actually going to have to brush up on my lyrics I think, haha!

And no way would they focus on the first 3 albums. No way. Not with VLV such a worldwide hit and a new album coming out soon. Just sayin'.

You can live in hope though :P

a majority of the crowd will be your usual triple j listener or music fan with a similar taste. look at the line up they're playing with here compared to the line ups theyre with else where in the world. its basically coldplay, kanye then a massive drop to the next biggest. it's probably the smallest festival they're playing at as well.

splendour has never seen an act like coldplay circa 2011 before.

Well, technically, no festivals have really except for the few that Coldplay have played at/are going to play at this year :P

Not that it matters. I'm still excited :D

OH SHIIIIT. What are you going to do?? That really sucks, man

Is the Speaker Lover Keeper album any good?

I gave Seeker Lover Keeper my first listen last night and yeah, I really liked it. I never extensively listened to any of the separate artists so I can't really compare, but I know I'm definitely going to be listening to the album more. It's really nice.

Ew, hope they havent changed my flight I would be cut!!!!

So has everyone voted for Triple j Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time? I ended up just voted for my favourites from the past decade, couldn't be bothered to venture back any further and honestly I just wouldn't listen to them anyway. Heres my list:

Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

Angus & Julia Stone - Down the Way

Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails, Red Wine

Cloud Control - Bliss Release

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

Jonathan Boulet - Jonathan Boulet

Middle East, The - I Want That You Are Always Happy

Parades - Foreign Tapes

Powderfinger - Odyssey Number Five

Temper Trap, The - Conditions

i'm using this poll as a way of learning more about aussie music. so i won't be voting.

I haven't voted yet either. If voting's still open when my exams are over I might take the time to vote, but like yourself I don't really know too much about Australia's musical past. I probably can't even say I have a good idea about the last decade. Maybe just the last couple of years :P

I like your list though.

Ooooh Lykke Li for Parklife... tempting.

  • Author

absolute killer line up for Parklife considering the size of the festival and the time of year it's held.

i'll very keen for Lykke Li sideshow.
