Are you going to any shows? I guess it is pretty bad timing, I didn't really notice that when the lineup came out a couple of months ago.

I think the lineup is great! disappointed Bat for Lashes didn't want to make a little trip up to Brisbane though.

Interesting article about who's headlining when at Splendour and a couple of other little things.

no way lol. i have 3 mega important essays due in that week and opera house is a 50min drive each way. and i know for a fact that i'm not the only one saying that.

yeah i saw that article. a little bummed chris and kanye won't be mashing. but you never know, kanye might be feeling generous (lol jks) and stay back a day to join coldplay on stage. one of the comment said the headliners will be Janes Addiction, Kanye, Coldplay in that order. that sounds reasonable to me.

Oh really? I assumed that Kanye would be headlining the Friday night after the article said this:

The only way it could happen is if Kanye decided to come and join Coldplay on stage, it couldn’t be the other way around because Coldplay are playing at Fuji Rock on the Friday night.

I hope one of the other stages has an awesome lineup on the night Jane's Addiction are playing. I can't see myself lining up to see them.

i just can't imagine them having Kanye as the headliner of the first night. it would be such an anti climax.

i hope regina headlines the GW stage the same night as Janes Addiction play. they're the one headliner i have no issues with missing. i have great respect for them as a band but nothing next to kanye and coldplay and it would just be nice to be away from the main stage for one night.

Exactly my thinking too. I plan to be right up the front for the other two nights unless there is a huge clash. But I'll be REALLY annoyed if anyone clashes with either Kanye or Coldplay.

I'm guessing Regina will headline the GW McLennan tent, it seems to be the more-folky/acoustic-less-pop/electronic of the two other stages.

Last year I only actually spent one night at the main stage until the end of the night, now I think about it.

Splendour sideshows perhaps?

Yes, that's precisely what I'm talking about. I mean, there's Elbow. FRICKIN' ELBOW. I wanna hear Guy Garvey's angelic husky tenor, dammit. :(

Thanks for sharing this one deathy. Great track!

We formed Silverchair nearly 20 years ago when we were just 12 years old. Today we stand by the same rules now as we did back then ... if the band stops being fun and if it's no longer fulfilling creatively, then we need to stop.

Therefore after much soul searching we wanted to let you know that we're putting Silverchair into "indefinite hibernation" and we've decided to each do our own thing for the foreseeable future.

We assure you that this decision has not been taken lightly. In fact we've been struggling with it for quite a while now.

Back in 2009 we went into the studio to start work on a record. Initially things were going well and as a result we did some shows in 2010 to maintain creative momentum. However, over the months that followed in the studio it became clear to us that we were moving in different directions. Despite our best efforts over the last year or so, it's become increasingly clear that the spark simply isn't there between the three of us at the moment.

As a result we've decided to put the band into 'a deep sleep' while we all do other things that we find more inspiring right now. This means that Silverchair won't be making music together or playing shows any time soon. It also means that the three of us won't be working together unless and until it feels right again.

We understand some of you may be disappointed by this news but we really see it as a liberating and positive step for us at this point in our lives.

We also want to make it really clear that this decision has been made with the best possible intentions. We've always tried our hearts out to make the best music we could possibly make at the time - regardless of commercial consequences.

The three of us still truly care about each other. At the moment Ben’s busy in the studio recording his own music, Chris is working on various business, musical and charitable ventures while Daniel is creating a film soundtrack and working on other musical projects. We hope you'll continue to take an interest in our individual work over the years ahead.

In closing we'd like to acknowledge all the people 'behind the scenes' who've helped us keep this train on the tracks since we first started playing in a garage. There are too many to name but they know who they are and we truly appreciate all their love and hard work.

Above all though we want to thank you for all your support in good times and bad. You've put up with our long breaks between albums, our constantly changing musical styles and lots more. The unbelievable loyalty we've been shown by you our audience, and our friends, has never gone unnoticed or unappreciated. That’s why we wanted to tell you first.

With Sincere Thanks For Your Understanding.

Sweet Dreams.

Daniel, Ben and Chris

imo their last two albums were their strongest. but they had a horrible live reputation and their international success all but disappeared after their first hiatus. so basically another aussie band calling it quits cos they realised they were going no where in terms of popularity and they were sick of doing 8 aus tours on each album and then playing to 15 people in europe.

Essentially. I agree, their last two albums were their strongest, but I would never have called them my favourite aussie band. Anyway, it makes more room for the fresh talent coming through.

Agreeing with everything you guys have said. I can't call myself a big fan, in fact I don't think I've ever listened to a single album of theirs start-to-finish. And I know that their live show has really gone downhill in the past couple of years, so perhaps it's for the best. I wonder if their side projects will be any good.

And yes, bring in the fresh blood!

tickets are only $25 which is great! but i hope that doesn't mean they do a no frills show with all their songs stripped of all their parts or they just don't do those "ambitious" songs.

  • Author

the one in sydney i'm pretty sure is.

i'll leave it up to you to find out about the melbourne show ;)

I looked on the venue website quickly, and it didn't say anything... looking closer now says IT IS. ULTIMATE DISAPPOINT!

ARCTIC MONKEYS ARE COMING OUT IN THE SUMMER!

Matt just said so, during an interview on the J :awesome:

Liking new Panics, I'd love to go and see them but I'll be out of Bris by then so hopefully I won't miss their set at Splendour.

Also considering Liam Finn seeing as tickets are only about $25 for him as well/

but which festival!! there are so many bands who didnt come out for splendour that i'm not sure how they'll all fit on the summer line ups. Arctic Monkeys, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie all would be expecting a good billing on whatever festival they play.

Haha, who cares? I'll be going no matter what festival if they'll be there!

Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver for Laneway would be amazing. Arctic Monkeys and/or Death Cab for Big Day Out or even Falls, possible even Future? Who knows.

  • Author

hmmm. i think a lot depends on if Future will strip its "techno/electro" vibe and become an all encompassing festival.

so over summer we have

Parklife - electro/hip hop/ dance based stuff

Falls/Sunset - indie indie indie

BDO - these buggers are so desperate they'll take anyone and anything

Laneway - super indie! will be there regardless of line up.

Soundwave - whatever you can headbang to

Future - i'm expecting these guys to deliver something big in 2012

Good Vibes - whatever is left

have i forgotten any major ones?

EDIT: just heard that V Festival is returning. now that makes me feel much better! plenty of space for all our indie faves now.
