Official Aussie Music Fan Thread

Featured Replies

Well I'm pretty sure Jamie created this thread for anyone who likes Aussie music, and it just so happens that us aussies seem to like it the most :awesome: so yes!

As for this year... Aus music has been lacking a little something this year. I think the only ones I can personally recommend are Zonoscope by Cut Copy, I Want That You Are Always Happy by The Middle East and The Great Impression by Sparkadia. I can't really think of any other good Aussie albums released so far this year.

Boy and Bear are releasing their debut album in a couple of months though, YAY :awesome:

I have two of those already, HA. I'll look into Sparkadia, then.

What about last year, then?

Yes, do :D

Hmmmmm ok, well, in the little debate we had here at the end of last year we decided that 'Innerspeaker' by Tame Impala was the best Australian album of 2010. Judging by the way you didn't recognise 'Solitude is Bliss' (song originally performed by said band) on the mixtape I made you I'm going to assume you haven't heard it so... DO IT.

I've raided my iTunes and made a list of good releases from last year, pick and choose from it what you will :D

Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

Cloud Control - Bliss Release

Gypsy & the Cat - Gilgamesh

Angus & Julia Stone - Down the Way

Boy & Bear - With Emperor Antarctica EP

The Holidays - Post Paradise

Hungry Kids of Hungary - Escapades

Miami Horror - Illumination

Parades - Foreign Tapes

Seabellies - By Limbo Lake

They're all worth a listen, in my opinion!

I'll leave it up to the guys to fill in any gaps :awesome:

I actually remember Hungry Kids of Hungary from a mixtape previously made for me. :D Also, I think Bryce put Parades on his tape. I'll take a listen to those and see what I think.

Haha really? I missed it, in what way was it so bad??

In other aus-music news, I think it's really interesting that Splendour has STILL not sold out, why do we think that would be? The price of tickets? The lineup?

In case you didn't hear, the ticketing system broke. Meaning took ages for people to buy tickets online

Oh yes I was aware of that. But it's fixed now and STILL hasn't sold out.

Would people class Snowman as Australia, because they were formed here? They recently released a new album, Absence.

dude who cares. we'll take whatever we can get this year. lol

I know right, it's been pretty disappointing. Though, you've got to keep in mind that Angus and Julia stone was really the only decent album that wasn't a debut, so I'm sort of hoping that some great debuts are released this year as well.

well i quite liked the Eddy Current and Children Collide albums from 2010. but yeah you're right. we'll just have to wait and see.

Never heard of snowman, but yeah I think we're all ready to grab anything that comes up!

That's a good point Bryce. There have already been quite a few good debut releases this year, just none of them have been Australian :P

Melbourne Revolution – Friday 30th September

Adelaide Revolution – Saturday 1st October

Perth Revolution – Monday 3rd October

some pretty frken huge names on that line up. with only a select few doing sideshows. this should sell very well.

Whoah.

When I first heard they were doing Soundwave Revolution, I thought it was a bit of overkill, having two Soundwaves in a year (well, kind of anyway). But that lineup is massive!

I just learned yesterday that Sia was Australian. That's probably disappointing to you guys. Actually, it's OK, because I don't really know her because I don't listen to her music. Wait, maybe that's more disappointing. I DON'T KNOW. :freak:

don't feel too bad lol. i've only just become a fan in the past month. Some People Have Real Problems is an amazing album!

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! :nice:

cmon guys whats happening with this thread!

new boy&bear might fix that.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAjKNsLgvAU]YouTube - Feeding Line - Boy & Bear[/ame]

no idea when the new album is out. i think they need to release another EP cos at the moment their entire reputation and status seems to be based on the crowded house cover.

Sorry! My uni schedule has gone through the roof lately and I'm super busy so I probably won't be on here much at all for the next few weeks!

About Boy and Bear, I do like the new one, heard it on the radio a couple of times. I can't see them putting out another EP though, and I'm just hoping the same thing doesn't happen to them as happened to The Middle East. Because I like them more.

Also, triple J is announcing in the morning which bands are doing slideshows for Splendour!

i guess with a few more of us going to splendour this year sideshow news isnt as exciting. but i think it makes for interesting discussion regardless.

for me the biggest difference this year seems to be the lack of bands with the ability of selling out multiple shows at a decent venue. last year you had florence, mumford, strokes and lcd soundsystem all of whom brought along a ton of hype and anticipation and in turn a ton of ticket sales. this year there are some very exciting bands on the line up but none are the type to pack out those big rooms. i'm speaking of wild beasts, james blake, foster the people and friendly fires.

from what i hear kaiser chiefs and mars volta sideshows should be announced soon.

i've come to realise had i stayed home for splendour i would've really only gone to 4 sideshows. kaiser chiefs, elbow, james blake and wild beasts.

I think I'll still go to elbow, vaccines and kaiser sideshows regardless!!

  • Author

you're lucky in melbourne. the sideshows aren't as close to splendour as they are for sydney. if the Wild Beasts isn't sold out by show date i might just pop in on the night. bit of a splendour warm up!
