October 19, 200916 yr I don't think I've ever met an exotic fruit I've not liked :uhoh: Haha same here. Especially durian, though everyone else thinks it's gross :P
October 19, 200916 yr Durians are supposed to be super-strong - but what is one like? They won't offer them in our stores (perhaps they don't ship or keep well?).. What's the smell like??
October 19, 200916 yr What's a mangosteen like? They have dark purple skin and sweet white flesh inside...
October 19, 200916 yr Haha same here. Especially durian, though everyone else thinks it's gross :P It's a Southeast Asian thing :P Durians are supposed to be super-strong - but what is one like? They won't offer them in our stores (perhaps they don't ship or keep well?).. What's the smell like?? The smell... some people describe it as worse than a garbage dump  That's probably the main reason why you don't get them imported. But if you can get past the smell, they are sweet (some species have a bitter edge), creamy and rich.
October 19, 200916 yr Durians are supposed to be super-strong - but what is one like? They won't offer them in our stores (perhaps they don't ship or keep well?).. What's the smell like?? To me it smells like blue cheese but stronger. They have dark purple skin and sweet white flesh inside... Mangosteen is my most favourite local fruit :D
October 19, 200916 yr Thanks!:) The odor according to Wiki may be from the fruit's emission of hydrogen sulfide gas (which smells like rotten eggs), so I can see why they've been compared to a garbage heap odor-wise! (but then Wiki also says they vary widely in odor & flavor, hence some smell more like almonds, and others like cheese, onions, or cooking sherry!) Cheese ones would be nice.;) & thanks for the info. on mangosteens - quite interesting in appearance also!! Wish I could try some of these fruits - you've got it nice living in the tropics.:sunny:
