deaths_friend
i wish this forum could filter out pointless non-sensical comments the same way it censors offensive words. but to the point of the thread. almost very impressed by the list. they have all the best albums there maybe not in the order i would like but at least they are recognised. and good to see a magazine that doesnt hesitate in having a band multiple times near the top of their lists when they deserve it. coldplay fans dont feel angry, the only reason they didnt make this list is because they are commercially successful not because of the quality of their music. Or the thread creator's or yours, either, so butt out.:smug: Anyway, as I said - NME = Non Music Entity. The simple fact is that any such list that doesn't include any Coldplay albums cannot be taken seriously in any shape or form.;)

Space Cadet
That's actually a surprisingly good list overall, if you look at the details rather than the top ten. Of course it's an NME list, so of course NME bands are going to rank unfairly high. Almost anyone could have predicted the Libertines, the Strokes and the Arctic Monkeys before looking at this. Those are the bands that defined the magazines whole view of the decade. But look at all the other stuff that made it. Some great stuff made the cut too, and I bet you aren't going to see most of it on more mainstream-oriented lists. Forgetting the obvious, this is a list that reminds me how cool some of the decade has been. :nice:

Quite frankly, it's a joke.

Quite frankly, it's a joke.:angry:Yes... but that in itself is a reflection of the decade in a way- it's the decade that the music world fractured into radically different music groups, and the champion of each group is going to make a certain type of list. Pitchfork made one kind of list full of Pitchfork-y albums. Rolling Stone made or will make another kind of list. Each gives a view of their subset through the decade. So the NME left off that type of album. That was a distinct category of music that isn't really part of their world view. *shrug* If that kind of music had had it's champion we would have had a list dominated by it. I'm just glad they never came up with a name for it. Someone really should have. Any other decade they would have. But then it would have been "eww I don't like that kind of music. anyone who likes that kind of music should die." See emo- if we had just kept calling it pop-punk, people would have strongly disliked it, but they wouldn't have had a compact target for hatred like with emo. Without a name, it was like throwing darts at a moving board. They hated it but couldn't really come up with a 'thing' to aim at, and as a result others let it slip into 'cool' lists because it wasn't categorized as something they weren't allowed to like any more. The downside is that without a name that culture stream never really developed a core to hold it together either. It was more just understood- if you like Keane you'll probably like Travis too. But that's exactly why this board needs it's own albums of the decade list. Who?:dozey:And there's your problem right there. :P
mc_squared
But that's exactly why this board needs it's own albums of the decade list. Excellent idea. It would certainly be far more representative than that NME list!:smug:
