December 13, 200916 yr The Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi was left bloodied and bruised when he was struck in the face by a man after a political rally in the centre of Milan today. Eyewitnesses said that Mr Berlusconi was attacked as he was signing autographs in the square in front of the city's cathedral, the Duomo. He had just finished giving a speech in a bid to rally support for his ruling coalition amid continuing speculation about his future and an increasingly divided government. One media report said he had been attacked with a minature replica of the cathedral and he slumped to the ground after he was struck.
