A teenage mother was investigated by police after photographs of her six-month-old son with a cigarette in his mouth were posted on Facebook.

Rebecca Davey, 18, was reported by online friends who spotted the picture of baby Ollie.

It showed the tot in a striped babygro, with the unlit cigarette hanging from his mouth.

Essex police visited Rebecca's home in Southend, Essex, but said there were 'no immediate concerns' for the child's welfare. Social services also made inquiries.

Her friends rushed to her support, with one writing on her page: 'Some ppl r nosey f****** aint they!! dw [don't worry] ur a good mum they wont hassle u 4 long!!!'

But another said: 'What chance has the kid got if the family behave like this?'

It's an unlit cigarette, and not doing him any harm, while I think it isn't appropiate it really is a bit much to send the Police and Social Services to the girls house over it.

Are you kidding? Next thing you know, that baby will be lying in a dentist chair getting booze pumped into his mouth! Send the cavalry!

What the fuck are you talking about?

It was a young, stupid girl being a young, stupid mum. Hopefully she'll mature as quickly as the kid, it really wasn't a big deal.

Exactly, the kid wasn't in any danger, I think some peoples over reaction to this is pathetic, including the Police and Social Services ones.

I know, I was being sarcastic ;)

Sometimes it's hard to tell, with how authoritarian people are these days.

Do you know how I actually couldn't tell? I've been reading too many of Mark's topics directly from The Daily Mail.

That newspaper rots your brain.

It's like the news section is being spammed by a Daily Mail fanatic who feels it's their duty to inform everyone of it's oversensitive sensationalist drivel (Sorry, it's news) in an attempt to reach out to anyone who isn't within the newspapers demographic of menopausal middle-aged women whose lives are unfulfilled and pointless and they need something to moan about so their lives have purpose (unless of course he/she IS actually one of these people). :)

ALL newspapers are in one way or another. If they weren't, nobody would buy them.

Anyway, it provokes discussion, which is what it's all about.:smug:

To be fair I don't feel that alot of papers are, The Guardian for example while it clearly has left bias I wouldn't class as sensatioalist.

The Independant is an ok read, The Express is ok from what I remember, I personally like The Telegraph.

The Daily Mail has things along the lines of:

"Watch out Immigrant, Muslim,Black,Homosexuals will take over the country, and claim benifits fear for your lives"

Or other non stories like the baby with the unlit cigarette, by the looks of what other people have said I'm not the only one who has this sort of opinion of The Mail,I'm not criticizing you for reading it but I would take alot of what they say with a lorry load of salt.

You could still say the same about anything you read or hear. The Iraq "war" and the climate change "evidence" are prime examples.

The fact is, whether you think the reaction to what this mother did was disproportionate or not, she's clearly a "few sandwiches short of a picnic" to have done it in the first place.:dozey:

Not really, she's young and was no doubt fooling around, no harm came to the baby and there shouldn't have been the fuss that there was.

Maybe, but cigarettes and babies don't go together in any shape or form, therefore this photo should never have happened.

I felt the same way when Spamela Anderson sold that photo of her baby with a cigar sticking out of its mouth. Totally inappropriate.:dozey:

Woah, you really ARE a menopausal middle-aged woman.

Nothing happened to the kid. It's not going to drive the population of one-year old children to run out and attempt to buy cigarettes. It's just another sensationalist over-reaction from a rag of a paper that plays upon the ignorance and stupidity of people like you.

As you are clearly another user (almost certainly Spoon) masquerading under another name, I don't really give a monkey's what you think, but I reckon if anyone's over-reacting, it's you.

You are sadly in that very small minority of people who are incapable of discussing a topic without getting "personal", therefore anything you say can be pretty much disregarded.:smug:
