Community service isn't a bad idea...like, if his license was taken away for 2 months and he had to do 2 hours of community service. :P

Any advances?

Ashley is a boy?

It was always a boy's name until recently. We American's are just uncool like that.

That's so weird. :P

I'm with Reiley on this one, for the benifit of the Daily Wail here is a pic of the road, maybe not the exact spot but you will get an idea of the layout etc:

I think he was heading in the other direction than the pic though.

I think labeling him as a danger etc for doing a speed on a clear stretch of 3 lane carrigeway is stupid.

In fact I don't see anything wrong with going greater speeds on a motorway providing the driver is half competant and the vechicle is in sound condition.

I think driving double the speed limit on any public road is inexcusable and irresponsible, whether you regard it as "dangerous" or not.

There's a big difference between doing that and driving at, say, 85 mph on a motorway where the limit is 70.

Still illegal, of course, but not "idiotic".

Incidentally, it isn't even as if that road in the photo is an open stretch of motorway, as I can see houses and pavements. That means there could quite easily be pedestrians about, hence the 50 mph limit, I assume.

I have no problem with people who do double the speed limit on open motorways, because going fast on a clear road designed for that purpose isn't dangerous or idiotic, incidentally that road isn't pedestrianzed at all, if someone wants to walk on the A3 then they are a moron and I would have no sympathy if they got run over.

Well if that's the case why bother having speed limits at all? Even in Germany there's a limit on most stretches of motorway.:dozey:

Well it looks like there are places alongside where people can walk or cycle, but the fact is that the road passes through an urbanised area, therefore I am of the opinion the speed limit in place is justified, and it was ridiculous of Ashley Cole to drive at over 100 mph.

Mark I think you've just had a scarring experience with an autobahn, giving this dude a four month ban for driving fast on a road with nobody around is ridiculous...

I think he's just a bitter misguided idiot-child. He should be pitied were he not so unlikable.

You know I think I really like you except for that time you were a dickhead to that one guy who didn't use proper grammar.

Ahhh me and Electric Candy were just messing about with each other and it got a bit out of hand. We got it sorted. I don't really care what way people type, spell or whether they use proper grammar or not.

Firstly, you have no idea who was around and who wasn't, as you weren't there.;)

Secondly, if you don't think that driving over twice the speed limit (particularly when it's on a road in an urbanised area) is idiotic, it beggars belief.:dozey:

If everyone drove around at double the speed limit, there would be absolute carnage.

Anyway, the general consensus was that maybe the length of the ban was excessive in the circumstances, but not the ban itself.

Coming from someone who routinely hurls insults around for no reason, that's laughable.:laugh3:

In Germany they have an advised limit of 130 KM/H in most of the places I went however you could drive as fast as you wanted on most stretches of motorway, it's a good rule they should have it elsewhere too.

I don't pay much attention to arbitary speed limits on motorways.

Cole was subbed after an hour tonight, maybe so he could get a head start in the taxi?

I'm actually in Germany, and it's a total fallacy that there's no speed limit on most stretches of motorway. There is actually some kind of limit on most stretches, and it isn't unusual for there to be limits of 120 km/h and even 100 km/h in some places.

However, I do agree that the advised limit of 130 km/h is a good idea, and one that should be adopted in the UK, as 70 mph on the motorway feels far too slow.

The Germans do have a lot more common-sense when it comes to setting their limits, that's for sure.;)

From searching it looks like a sizeable amount of Germanys motorway network is unlimited, still the Germans along with the French can actually drive, unlike most drivers in the UK who are rubbish.

Well according to Wiki it's about half, apparently, which is still far less than people think. And where I am, those stretches are few and far between, almost certainly because it's a populous area.

Although many Germans (especially those in flash cars) tend to drive like they own the roads, unfortunately.:dozey:

However, all-in-all, it's true that driving in Germany is generally a far more pleasurable experience than in the UK.;)
