What do you think...Muse and Radiohead

Muse > Radiohead > Coldplay. I love them all, though.

I kinda see the Muse/Radiohead comparison, but not really. Thom's voice is more mellow and has a better lower register, whereas Matt's is very powerful (some people would say "harsh") and rocks the higher register with his falsetto. I've never heard of a Coldplay/Radiohead comparison until now, and the more I think about it, the less sense it makes to me.

If I hear another Queen/Muse comparison, I'm going to punch someone. :P

Summer of 2009 for me.

:disappointed:

I love them all (Cp, Rh,Muse) but my favourite is Radiohead. And I fail

to see the resemblance between them except for the use of falsetto.

They all use piano. /insignificant similarity?

Some people might disagree with that.

But very seriously, that might be my least favourite thing about Muse. Especially in Starlight, I really hate the piano riffs...

What's wrong with them?

And they all also use bass, guitar and drums!

....

Btw, Muse piano melodies cheesy? Wtf have you ever heard space dementia or butterflies and hurricanes?

I love them all 3.

And just like some others, i don't see any similarity.

Now STOP arguing about these bands! It's driving me crazy!:rolleyes3:

LOL! Sorry to say violetsparks, but there are some parts of Muse songs where I think, WOW! how very "Queen" of them. And in by no way is that meant to be an insult to either band. Queen totally rocked! So, don't punch anyone for the comparison. The similarities, at least for me, is a good thing. I do the same thing with Coldplay. I'll hear a song (example Twisted Logic) and think how totally The Beatles (I Want You) it sounds. That's just one of many...imitation is the most sincere form of flattery afterall.

I couldn't hear any similarities between Radiohead and Muse, but wanted to get other opinions, say from Radiohead fans. There is definitely NO similarities between Radiohead and Coldplay. They are on totally different playing fields. I think Coldplay is much better, but that's just me.

Anyway, thanks to all for your comments....lovin' it!

Since people are putting these groups in a particular order, for me, it's Coldlpay, Muse and then Radiohead.

am i allowed to love muse and radiohead and be aware of the obvious similarities between the singing styles of thom and matt as well as the similar song structures they have?

havent people ever wondered why the three most popular bands on this forum are coldplay, radiohead and muse?? maybe they sound just a little like each other and therefore appeal to the same audiences...........

Who's arguing? At least, I'm not trying to argue, so much as have a friendly discussion.

Well, I mean, it's not that I don't see Queen elements in Muse's music sometimes. It's when people claim that Muse copy Queen that I get angry, b/c that's not the case at all. Maybe I'm just in denial. Heehee. :P I like Queen, too, so it's not as if I'm dissing Queen or anything, you know? I'm just tired of people claiming Muse is a copycat band.

^^

theres nothing wrong with being inspired by another band. but i think the reason why muse do cop alot of flack over the queen-esque sound is because the songs that have that sound arent exactly their best tracks. the best example would be united states of eurasia which is a train-wreck (thats my phrase of the week) of a song but because it has that obvious correlation with queen's music, people find it easy to hit them with that criticism.

muse's best work, at least imo, is their unique material. songs like stockholm syndrome, new born, citizen erased, muscle museum, knights of cydonia, assassin, time is running out (which is kinda radiohead-ish) and butterflies + hurricanes. im sure in 15-20years time alot of bands will be criticised for copying the tracks mentioned. its just how the music world goes round.

And they all also use bass, guitar and drums!

I just listened to Space Dementia. It wasn't cheesy, but I didn't like it...that style of piano playing annoys me but okay...

I think that Muse are the greatest band of the last 20 years. I think that Coldplay are very good. Whilst I don't dislike Radiohead and quite like some tracks, I really can't see what all the fuss is about. And the only Radiohead/Muse similarity I can hear is in the vocal style. Still, each to their own. ;)

Bellamy's voice is much more powerful, but Yorke's one is much more beautiful. The only resemblance I see is the use of falsetto and a few songs on The Bends and the wild part of paranoid android.

But it was not cheesy :P

I just don't like Muse that much :smug:

I really don't know why, I just don't like them :wacky:

No piano riffs or guitars or whatever. i just gah. have this deep hate for most of their stuff.

Hi

actually this question is not that hard. We are not comparing RH, Beatles, Pink Floyd here, are we?

Radiohead recorded two perfect albums considered the best of two consecutive decades. They also created two almost perfect albums, arguably the best of years of their issue.

Another two albums are highly acclaimed and belong firmly to top 5 and top 10 of their respective years (Amnesiac, HTTT).

Coldplays first two albums are very very good IMO and I have soft spot for almost all songs on these records. Critical acclaim puts them in top 10 and even top 5 (Rush of blood) for the years they came out. Then Viva knocks on top 20 too.

On the contrary Muse has never entered this level of greatness. Their music is uninspired in comparison, cheesy and rip off too often, not to mention lyrics. You know heavy almost metal riffs and drumming may attract most people but outside this box they are average, even adored by fans exogenesis shows lack of composition skills IMO.

yeah i agree that if we're comparing each band on their ability to write great albums, Muse does come a distant last out of the 3. yet you'll find that most (if not all) the people who are supporting muse on this thread are the ones who have had the pleasure of seeing the band live on stage. they (including me) admire their ability to take their music to another level when they play live, they are not afraid to do extended jams and improvisations, unlike the other two bands who rarely ever have any degree of spontaneity in their shows.

of course this is all mere opinion and completely objective but we are all entitled to our say.

Nicely said!

The comparison hasn't been valid since Muse's first album.
