Upload Ipod to new computer?

Featured Replies

My old computer crashed, so I bought a new one. Almost all my music is on my Ipod. I don't have Itunes on my new computer yet, should I download the software to transfer my Ipod music to my computer then download Itunes? I don't want to have my Ipod erased with autosync because I'd lose a couple thousand songs. Any suggestions?

If you connect your iPod to a computer it isn't synced to, iTunes usually asks if you want to sync first. That's what happened when I connected my Touch to another computer last week (had to transfer my music as well ). But if you want to be 100% sure, it's safer to transfer your music first.

And if you want to copy music on your iPod to your new computer, you need transfer software anyway because you can't copy songs from iPod to hard disk in iTunes.

DiskAid worked for me.

The best bet is to uninstall itunes if you can, then download one of those software which allows you to access the iPod as a standard hard-drive, copying and pasting the music from the iPod to your computer before re-installing iTunes to rebuild your library and so your iPod can dock with the new library.

But are you saying you failed at keeping a back-up of your music etc on an external hard-drive? Nick you dispoint me

I tried Idump because you don't need Itunes, but there is no select all button. I'm not going to individually select 4500 songs. So I downloaded Itunes because DiskAid requires it. So I just change the setting to not auto-sync before I plug my ipod in?

If you connect your iPod to a computer it isn't synced to, iTunes will ask if you want to sync (i.e. lose your stuff) before actually syncing. That's how it worked with my Touch and Nano G2 and G3 when I connected them to iTunes 9.0+. If you turn off autosync, iTunes will only sync when you do it manually. So in short, yes.
