I usually say dinner, but supper's more proper. My mom always said that people out Wes say dinner for lunch and supper for dinner, but I'm not sure how credible that is. :P

we call it that too sometimes...depending on if we had a big lunch :laugh4:

I think in some countries, or maybe 50+ years ago, dinner and supper meant two different things and they were served in the same day... I think supper came earlier, then dinner later. Or maybe supper's more of a casual meal, and dinner's fancier. I dunno.

i always was suspicious but if you are right it mean that out of my bet my english teachers indeed learn english with too old books :awesome: (my bet was of +20y ago)

as a student i've been told that:

supper: casual meal, that is few food and specially to be served at night

dinner: fancy meal, more complicated to prepaare, that is served at night.

so according to my teachers are two different concepts, but once again they don't seem to be so up to date. :freak:

Wow. At fifth grade I learnt that dinner is what you eat in the daytime, and supper you eat in the evening. Isn't that correct? :confused:

I only call it dinner when it's a special occasion...and even then, I usually just say supper. :shrug: I guess it's what my parents say.

only other difference they told me is:

supper is when you have a small meal earlier than dinner so you don't have dinner.

dinner is a proper meal.

in elementary school I was learned that supper was before 6pm, and dinner after 6pm :facepalm:
