Your worst sunburn?

Featured Replies

So this weekend, as a result of my own momentary lack of judgment, I got a really bad sunburn. I'm talking BAD. Lobster bad. I went tubing on a river for 5 hours without sunblock, so the front of my arms/chest/legs are all fried. My arms and chest hurt a bit, but it's the legs that hurt the most since they typically don't get much exposure to the sun. The pain on my legs is SO intense. I could barely sleep on Sunday night because of the pain. And yesterday whenever I tried to stand up, it felt like my legs were being torched. Plus I had this odd, even more painful, sensation that my legs were being crushed by a ton of bricks and they were about to snap like twigs. I'm not sure what that's all about.

Anyway, I'm interested to hear your stories... do recall your worst sunburn?

Ouch! The worst sunburn I got was when I went sailing and didn't put any sunscreen on. But it wasn't bad, it didn't peel or anything.

Yes, quite clearly. It was my first sunburn. My brother was early into his baseball career, like pitching machine league. It was in the hot part of the summer; I believe it was July. Anyway, we were at the ballpark practically all day; we were there from the early morning until it got dark. Not once did I ever have sunscreen. The results were terrifying, and from that point onward, I knew how important it was to have it.

probably the worst suburn i remember is when i was around 12 and i was playing with my youngest cousin at the beach -who was 2 at the time and feared sea water.

i didn't use much sunscreen to avoid the sunburn and i exposed my back for a good 4 hours... was not as too painful and more than red i ended too 'darkened' but when the skin peels itself is so odd and it was so massive that time.

last sunburn i remember is when i went with my friends to do trekking -we call it that way here, may not be the proper word- at a mountain, at the time when the sun hits stronger here in summer time (from 2pm to 5pm), as a result my legs felt like burning at 9pm, and were ALL red, i didn't used any sunscreen stuff as none of us thought we'll end with sunburn. i would say we were lucky enough to not had suffered other worst things.

I've never had sunburn... no matter how hot it was and if I don't wear any sun screen, I just can't get burnt; I get really tanned instead.

It sounds painful.:stunned:

Yeah, I can't wait until it peels. I'll probably have big sheets of dead skin, enough to make a nice lampshade.

If I think about it later when I get home I might post a picture of the skin color difference.

I usually dont' get sunburn, and I can't remember any time that I might've.

:cheesy:

Hmmm maybe on my feet and ankles which was a while ago. That hurt like heck when i wanted to walk

Peeling across all my upper chest plus most of my face. It hurt like a bitch but I kept pouring water all over it and that soothed it a bit. Caladryl on the arms helped too.

My girl-friend has got a great sunburn of her ass recently. I think it should really hurts

several people on here witnessed my worst sunburn for a few years. Old Trafford Cricket Club, 12th September 2009. Still peeling at Wembley the week after!

 I'm sorry, this just made me laugh. I suppose this means a) she was laying facing the ground, and b) her butt was exposed (for a significant amount of time).

I couldn't really get a good perspective on my legs since there was no definitive before/after spot. So instead I just took a picture near my shoulder from the bathing suit line. Keep in mind a) the lighting here doesn't really show how red it is, b) my legs are worse than this, and c) this was worse yesterday.

That's is really bad, Carrie. I really hope for you that the pain will stop soon.

I have been very red (not really sunburnt) on my arms and chest. I remember to put on suncream before my skin is exposed to the sun. Sometimes I get very red at the place exposed to the sun, but again: I remember to use the suncream.

My worst sunburn happened just back at the beginning of June. I was in Hawaii, and we were doing a lot of laying out in the sun, tanning and stuff. The first day we were there, we bought this tanning lotion that was supposed to be really good (and it was) and so we put on sunscreen then put the tanning lotion on top of it. Well at one point we got in the water and I (stupidly) forgot to reapply the sunscreen after getting out. But I did reapply the tanning lotion (which had no SPF) and I got a pretty bad sunburn alllllll over my frontside (except my face) and a little on my back. I even got sunburned on the top of my feet. It lasted for like a week and I peeled pretty badly afterwards. But I got a great tan. :awesome: (Yay skin cancer).

This.

I don't recall ever being sunburnt. Which is good one side but on the other sucks because it takes me months to get back to my normal skin colour.

For a while it's good but I still have traces of the tan line on my back since march . And if I hadn't wore sunscreen it would be 10 times worse!

Okay, so here's the little update. 3 days later it's still bad and actually getting worse, super red, and now there's really bad swelling in my lower legs. The swelling is so bad that my shoes wouldn't fit. I had to stop by Kmart on the way to work to pick up some black slippers, one higher size, and even they were a bit tight by the end of the day. It got to the point that I could barely walk because my lower legs were so swollen and the skin was so tight, so I couldn't really bend my knees and ankles. I went to the clinic to see if there was anything else I can do, and it turns out that I have borderline second degree burns. They gave me 2 shots (one steroid to reduce swelling, another one for pain). Then they gave me an antibiotic prescription (in case there's an infection, and the steroid reduces the immune response), and also an oral steroid prescription. And that's on top of continuing with aloe vera, cold compression, and ibuprofen, ugh. They told me if it doesn't get better in 3 days to come back again. I'm not sure what they would do at that point, though.

It sucked because tonight was our playoff games in softball, and I obviously couldn't play. :bigcry:

I hadn't had a sunbirn since I was 6 when I went to Water Country.

And the sunburn was so bad I felt ike, dehydrated for a week. I mean, I WAS 6 FOR FUCKS SAKE. Never forgot.

my stepmother hated me.

I was in Florida for softball. For four days we were at the ballpark from 7 am until about 3. Even with sunscreen my shoulders and face burnt to a nice tomato red shade and my scalp was burnt like no tomorrow.

Whoa, that sounds just like our "spring training" when I was in high school! Our team was pretty hard core. We went to Florida during our school's spring break and had practice for 8 hours each day in Ft. Myers.

I did have a bit of a sunburn my first time at spring training, the sunrays are more direct there than in Michigan, and I wasn't used to that.
